2024 College Football Week 14 Picks (ATS & Totals)
Michigan @ #2 Ohio State (The Game) | Saturday 12:00 p.m. ET
The 120th edition of “The Game” takes us to Columbus, Ohio, where the second-ranked Buckeyes are massive 20.5-point favorites against a struggling Michigan Wolverines squad. Ohio State, led by QB Will Howard and RB Quinshon Judkins, continues to dominate on both sides of the ball, ranking first in scoring defense and 10th in scoring offense. They’ve covered in six of their 11 games this season, including a convincing win over Indiana last week.
Meanwhile, Michigan has had a rough year. They’ve shown flashes of improvement recently, beating Northwestern 50-6 and covering against Indiana, but the Wolverines’ 128th-ranked total offense remains a glaring issue. Even so, they’ve won and covered in their last three matchups against Ohio State, proving this rivalry can always surprise.
Rather than choosing a side, I’m leaning toward the over. The last 10 games between these teams have averaged a combined 69.1 points. With Ohio State’s ability to score in multiple ways and Michigan finally showing signs of life offensively, this total feels too low for the history of this matchup.
Pick: Over 43.0 (-110)
#14 Arizona State @ Arizona (Territorial Cup) | Saturday 3:30 p.m. ET
Next, we head to Tucson, Ari., for the Territorial Cup, where the 14th-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils are laying 8.5 points against their rival, the Wildcats. Arizona’s season has spiraled, losing seven games and covering just twice all year (18.2% cover rate – the worst in the nation). Despite WR Tetairoa McMillan’s talent, the Wildcats rank 87th in total offense and 94th in total defense.
On the flip side, Arizona State has been a bettors’ dream, covering in nine of their 11 games this season, including their fourth straight cover in last week’s win over BYU. QB Sam Leavitt has the Sun Devils rolling.
While ASU looks like the pick, I’m leaning toward the over here. The last four Territorial Cup games have averaged a staggering 71.3 points. With ASU firing offensively and Arizona likely playing from behind with the best receiver in the country, this could turn into another shootout.
Pick: Over 53.5 (-110)
Kansas State @ #17 Iowa State (Farmageddon) | Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET
Finally, we head to Ames, Iowa, for Farmageddon, where the 17th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones are 2.5-point favorites over Kansas State in a game with Big 12 Championship implications. Iowa State has been impressive, rebounding from their back-to-back losses with back-to-back wins. QB Rocco Becht leads the nation’s 28th-ranked passing offense, which will look to exploit Kansas State’s 90th-ranked pass defense.
Kansas State, on the other hand, leans heavily on its 16th-ranked rushing offense behind DJ Giddens and Avery Johnson. The Wildcats’ strength could pose problems for Iowa State’s 100th-ranked rushing defense, setting the stage for a high-scoring affair.
Last year’s Farmageddon saw 77 total points, and both teams’ offensive strengths align with the opposing defenses’ weaknesses. This over feels like the best bet of the week.
