This head-to-head matchup keys in on two of the sport’s rising young stars. Bubba Wallace will roll up to the starting line in his No. 23 Toyota Camry for 23XI Racing, while Chase Briscoe will be in his No. 14 Stewart Haas Racing Ford Mustang.

Pennzoil 400 Matchup: Bubba Wallace (-150) vs. Chase Briscoe (+200)
As NASCAR heads to Sin City for the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the bet I have my eye on isn’t necessarily one with the favorites or the weekly front runners thus far in 2023. But it is one with two of the sport’s up-and-comers fighting to show their consistency and talent week in and week out – Wallace and Briscoe.
The duo is paired against each other at Caesars Sportsbook with Wallace’s No. 23 at -150, while Briscoe’s No. 14 is +120. Neither driver has consistently strong finishes in Vegas. Each has one top-10 finish (Briscoe was fourth in the most recent Las Vegas race last October, while Wallace was sixth in February 2020) and then no finish better than 14th, including a whole lot of stinkers in the back half of the field.
I don’t think either driver will run up front on Sunday, but as I mentioned this week on “The Backroad,” there’s always money to be made in the middle of the pack. This one could go either way, but I will take the plus money and go with Briscoe to win this one. Briscoe has the better career average here (18.5 to 23.2). Briscoe also has the only top five here between these two drivers, coming in the Fall, which has the closest resembling car to today.
