As the name implies, the field of competition for the 2025 3M Open is truly open.
With The Open Championship behind and Scottie Scheffler on top once again, many of the PGA Tour’s top players will be resting this week. But those who do play will be hungry for victory, meaning it’s anyone’s bet who wins this week. Will it be a player getting hot at the right time or a longshot?
Of course, we have those bets to take and players to watch ahead of the 3M Open!

Course Layout
Next on tap for the PGA Tour, the 3M Open will take place at TPC Twin Cities, located just outside Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a par-71 course played over 7,450 yards with extremely pristine bentgrass on the fairways and greens.
Course Strategy
TPC Twin Cities is one of the more scorable courses on the Tour, however it is riddled with water hazards. Water comes into play on 80% of the holes and remains a constant from off the tee throughout the round.
The fairways are wide and the greens are large, and they’re some of the highest fairways and greens in regulation for the season. The course is flat, with consistent lies and easy greens. While there are some weather concerns for Thursday, including a chance of thunderstorms, the rest of the weekend should be clear and calm, making for good conditions.
This week will favor players with an excellent approach game who aren’t afraid to be aggressive. The second shot is critical. The annual stats for the 3M Open are sticky, and the tournament is won each year by the best approach and putting.

Players to Target for 3M Open 2025:
Sam Burns (+1800)
Sam Burns can get hot when he needs to, and he needs to this week as the co-favorite in the odds alongside Chris Gotterup. But while Gotterup has found success recently, following up his Scottish Open win with a third-place finish at The Open, both of those were on links courses, and the PGA Tour is back to parkland this week. Gotterup may prove to be more of a flash in the pan and bentgrass is his worst putting surface, which is already a weakness.
Burns is the exact opposite, with an amazing putter and the stats to back it up. He excels in 3-putt avoidance and putts from outside ten feet, which should come in handy as his approach can be scary at times. That being said, he’s still 63rd in approach, which is solidly in the middle of the pack among this field. He is poised to make a statement at TPC Twin Cities this week.
Si Woo Kim (+3500)
A bit of a flyer this week, betting on Si Woo Kim will always be an experience of peaks and valleys. He’s typically terrible at putting, but he can make it happen at times, and if this is one of those times, it could easily be his week. The Korean’s accuracy is on point, ranking twelfth in approach and second in bogey avoidance, and he’s good at gaining on drives. If Si Woo Kim can stay on track and keep his putting in check, he has a real shot at winning the 3M Open.
Other Outrights To Consider:
- Akshay Bhatia (+4000): Proximity matters on the big greens like those at TPC Twin Cities, and Akshay Bhatia has proximity prowess. He can be a little more erratic off the tee, but he cleans it up on approach and is a master at making birdies. One of the biggest points in Bhatia’s favor, however, is that he is top of the field in avoiding bad misses on the right, and all of the numerous water hazards here are on the right.
- Luke Clanton (+5000): This course will reward golfers who take risks and Luke Clanton is not afraid to get aggressive. He goes after the pins and makes more birdies than anybody else. Clanton also rates decently off the tee, in his approach and in putting on bentgrass. Things will set up nicely for him at the 3M Open, as long as he’s honed in and avoids big numbers.
- Emiliano Grillo (+5000): Surprisingly, at the top of the model this week sits Emiliano Grillo. The Argentinian is accurate off the tee and on approach and ranks third in bogey avoidance. Grillo also seems to have finally figured out putting, ranking fifth in 3-putt avoidance. He just needs to put it all together.
Longshots To Consider:
- Jackson Suber (+12000): Like Clanton, Jackson Suber is known to take some risks, which should pay off. He’s great on approach and stout with the putter, and he usually gains 2.5 strokes on average on approach. Suber also finished 18th at the Canadian Open and sixth at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, so this could be his time to finish on top with an easier field.
- Sami Valimaki (+15000): Although Sami Valimaki’s game off the tee and ball flight can sometimes be shaky, it won’t be as much of a concern this week. The Finnish golfer has a good approach game and good putting, ranking tenth over the last 36 rounds in strokes gained putting. He’s also ranked 14th over the same stretch for his birdie or better percentage. If Valimaki starts hot, watch out.
- Karl Vilips (+25000): Perhaps more of a FOMO bet than anything else, but Karl Vilips could be in serious contention this week. His approach game has struggled lately and he is volatile, to be sure, but he’s won already this year. He’s shown that he can shred the field if he shows up firing on all cylinders, so let’s hope that’s the Vilips we get.
