Super Bowl LX is coming, but there are a number of past Super Bowl events it needs to beat. In fact, over the years, we’ve seen some truly entertaining Super Bowls featuring tightly contested battles, memorable halftime shows and iconic game-winning moments. With that in mind, this season’s Super Bowl has a lot to live up to.
While it will undoubtedly deliver, Super Bowl LX won’t necessarily reach the top of the Super Bowl rankings. For it to go down in history, the game itself needs to be special, players need to deliver on the biggest stage of all, and Bad Bunny’s halftime performance has to be better than some previous shows. For fans who bet on the Super Bowl and make bold predictions on X, this year’s finale will undoubtedly be compared to some past Super Bowl events when the action is over and a winner is crowned. It happens.
So, without further ado, below we briefly highlight some of the most unforgettable Super Bowl events from over the years. Could Super Bowl LX make the list in the future?
The Most Memorable Super Bowl Events Ever
Super Bowl XLIX
When assessing some of the finest Super Bowl performances in recent memory, it’s almost impossible to ignore Super Bowl XLIX. Taking place in 2015, this game saw the Patriots come out on top in the most dramatic of circumstances after the Seahawks decided to pass at the goal line. In the end, Malcolm Butler emerged as the hero and the Patriots brought home the bacon in a championship game many NFL fans still discuss today, especially with the Patriots and Seahawks facing each other again this year in Super Bowl LX.
Super Bowl XXV
Tight contests aren’t always guaranteed when a Super Bowl event comes around. Injuries can hinder a team’s prospects, while certain players can crumble under the pressure. However, at Super Bowl XXV in 1991, we saw arguably the most competitive final game of the season ever between the Giants and the Bills. In the end, the Giants reigned supreme by just one point, but both teams did themselves proud on the day.
Super Bowl LVI
In 2022, it’s fair to say the halftime performance by Dr. Dre and some of hip-hop’s biggest stars stole the show. With the likes of Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J. Blige turning up on stage, it was an iconic occasion filled with stars from the world of hip hop. While Bad Bunny deserves his moment, he’ll do well if he comes anywhere near that performance.
Super Bowl XXVII
Speaking of memorable musical performances, we couldn’t leave Super Bowl XXVII off the list either, right? This halftime performance saw Michael Jackson take the stage, with the “King of Pop” showcasing his usual dance moves and performing some of his toe-tapping tunes. One of the most spectacular productions from 1993, Super Bowl XXVII’s halftime show is the one to beat for many Super Bowl fanatics.
Super Bowl LII
Back to the action on the field now, and while Super Bowl LII probably isn’t the very best spectacle we’ve witnessed, it had its moments. In fact, 2018’s championship game featured the “Philly Special”, where quarterback Nick Foles managed to pull off an unlikely catch and seal the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the Philadelphia Eagles. A legendary Super Bowl moment, Super Bowl LII was brilliant.
Super Bowl XLI
Ending with another masterful show on stage at halftime, Super Bowl XLI has to make this list due to Prince’s legendary show in wet conditions. Fittingly, the American singer-songwriter performed “Purple Rain” during a downpour, providing a perfect spectacle in the process that matched the content on offer. It was certainly memorable.
