BMW Championship Betting Picks (Outrights)

  • Rory McIlroy (+650)
  • Tommy Fleetwood (+2000)
  • Brian Harman (+4000)
  • Eric Cole (+10000)

Rory McIlroy (+650)

No one is playing better golf coming into the BMW Championship than Rory McIlroy. He has eight T10s in his last 10 starts, including a win at the Genesis Scottish Open and a runner-up at the US Open. He also finished third last week at the St. Jude Championship. In his last five starts, he is gaining 12 strokes on the field on average and has not lost a meaningful amount of strokes in any category since May. He is long and accurate of the tee, and his approach game has been somewhat bulletproof lately.

The only question marks for McIlroy are some of the shorter wedge shots and his putting. However, he has been performing in both categories as of late. It’s a short number on him, but he is clearly outplaying everyone right now. I see him winning the BMW Championship this week in route to winning yet another Tour Championship at East Lake next week!

Tommy Fleetwood (+2000)

Tommy Fleetwood is another player in excellent form and should not be overlooked. He has six T10s in his last 10 starts. Much like McIlroy, he is gaining in every facet of his game right now. Fleetwood has the stigma of “never winning,” which is certainly still holding up based on how close he has been for the better part of two months now. I think this very well could be the week that he breaks through and gets that win.

This course will play tough, and Fleetwood tends to perform better the tougher it gets. He is accurate off the tee, which will be important at Olympia Fields. The fairways are tight and tree-lined, which will cause headaches if you get wayward. Fleetwood’s approach game has been a little more suspect over the last couple of months, but he is still gaining, and his putter has been on fire lately. Fleetwood is one to watch over the next few weeks. He will contend, starting here at the BMW Championship!

Brian Harman (+4000)

Accuracy and control? Yep! Fire up some Brian Harman. I really like Harman here. He is a shorter hitter who excels on setups that require more strategy and less brute force. The BMW Championship at Olympia Fields will be a true all-around test for these players, and Harman has been one of the better all-around players this season. Nothing exciting about Harman; he just hits his shots to spots and makes putts. The narrow fairways and very deep rough this week leads me toward a golfer like Harman. He won’t try to overpower this place, which, at the end of the weekend, may help him walk away with his second win of the season.

Eric Cole (+10000)

Eric Cole at +10000 seems like a misprice to me. He is another player that has the approach game and putter to really make some noise here. Another stat that jumped out at me is his scrambling. He is No.6 in this field in shots gained scrambling, which, I don’t care who you are, will be a factor here this week. He continues to be one of the best putters on tour. Those two stats alone will definitely contribute to Cole saving par more frequently than a lot of golfers this week.

His off-the-tee game is a little scary, to be honest. He has been much improved in that category, but he still hits the fairway less than 60% of the time, which is being offset by an excellent scrambling game. If we see a flat week off the tee (not losing strokes to the field), Cole will be firmly in contention and has a solid shot of getting his breakthrough win on a big stage at the BMW Championship.
