NASCAR DFS Picks, Tiers & Rankings: 2023 4EVER 400

Driver As | Fast Thoughts

Kyle Larson opened this week at +275 to win Homestead for a reason. Despite not being in the playoffs at this time last season, he dominated the race, ranking No. 1 in every advanced speed metric, such as total speed rankings (courtesy of ifantasyrace.com), green flag speed and speed late in a run. If anyone can give him a fight for the win, it’s his Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) teammate William Byron. The 25-year-old has the best average total speed rankings at the high-tire wear intermediate tracks (Homestead, Darlington and Auto Club) since 2022. He won Darlington I this season and recently finished P4 at Darlington II. Byron is my favorite NASCAR DFS lineup anchor this week at $10,500 on DraftKings and $27.70 on Fantrax.

Even in a disappointing 2022 season, Brad Keselowski had the fifth-best total speed ranking and finished P5 in this race last season. His average total speed rankings at our 2023 comp tracks of 10.0 (tied for seventh best) gives me faith that we’ll see another strong run for the No. 6 car that has six straight T10s on non-superspeedway ovals. Ross Chastain finished second at Homestead last year and had the No. 1 total speed ranking at Auto Club and Darlington I this season. “The Melon Man” has finished with a T10, including a P2 and P5, in three of the last four.

He’ll be chalky, given the race is named after him, but Kevin Harvick is a screaming NASCAR DFS value at $8,100 on DraftKings and $21.50 on Fantrax. He is tied for the second-best total speed rankings at the high-tire wear comp tracks this year and has an absurd 86% T10 rate at Homestead for his career. That’s the consistency I’m trying to lock into my lineup.

A.J. Allmendinger scored a miraculous P3 in this race last season and is averaging 41 NASCAR DFS points over his last three races. The No. 16 car is particularly interesting on DraftKings for $7,000. Chase Elliott was third in the total speed rankings last season and has a 42% T10 rate at Homestead. However, I prefer his HMS teammate Alex Bowman for $7,700 on DraftKings and $18.12 on Fantrax. Albeit missing Darlington I with his back injury, Bowman is tied with the No. 9 in average total speed rankings at our high-tire wear comp tracks this season.

Driver Ds | Fast Thoughts

The D-Tier is thin this go-around. Daniel Suarez was the fifth-fastest late in a run and finished 10th in this race a year ago. Though there was a negative performance at the ROVAL in-between, the No. 99 car has topped 49 NACAR DFS points in two of the last three races. Erik Jones finished 10th at Darlington II last month, but his seventh-best total speed ranking says there was an opportunity for more.  You could do worse at $7,200 on DraftKings and $15.29 on Fantrax.

Driver Fs | Fast Thoughts

Someone in the F-Tier will probably have a surprising T15 run on Sunday. Yet determining who is quite the task. Ryan Preece has averaged 33.8 NASCAR DFS points per race over the last five and likely won’t burn you. John Hunter Nemechek will pilot the Legacy Motorsports No. 42 Chevrolet Camero this weekend. His average finish at Homestead is 23.0 across his three Cup Series starts there. He’s a viable dart throw at $6,800 on DraftKings and the $5.00 minimum on Fantrax.
