Will Levis 2023 Fantasy Football Rookie Profile

Overview

University of Kentucky quarterback Will Levis is the consensus QB3-4 in this rookie class behind Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson. Coming out of high school, Levis was a 4.0 student getting offers from Ivy League schools. Levis pursued a Division 1 (D1) scholarship with the dream of playing in the NFL one day. The 24-year-old quarterback began his college career at the Pennsylvania State University. He redshirted his freshman year, followed by two seasons of backing up QB Sean Clifford. Levis played in only two games in three years before eventually transferring to Kentucky.

After only having 102 career attempts going into his first year at Kentucky, Levis showcased himself as a standout athlete in 2021. He finished his redshirt-junior season with 2,806 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, nine rushing touchdowns, 376 rushing yards and 13 interceptions.

Although he battled some injuries during his senior season, he still had a decent enough year to prove his worth as an NFL quarterback. He finished the 2022 season with a stat line of 2,406 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, -107 rushing yards (destroying his rushing ability value), two rushing TD and 10 interceptions. If he wasn’t dealing with lingering issues in 2022, I firmly believe he would be neck and neck with Bryce Young as to who should go first overall to Carolina with what he all had to overcome in his final season at Kentucky.

Pros

• Incredible arm strength
• Great size and stature
• Ran a pro-style offense at Kentucky
• Ability to keep plays alive with his feet

Cons

• Older prospect at 24
• Decision-making needs improvement
• Field vision can be questionable
• Too dependent on arm strength

Will Levis Player Comparison

Ryan Tannehill (QB, Tennessee Titans) With Josh Allen (QB, Buffalo Bills) Upside

I know many want to see the Josh Allen comparison with Levis’s potential upside. Yet, I prefer to keep his expectations to be more realistic from the tape we’ve seen from him. I believe his career trajectory depends on the coaching staff he’s drafted into. This is why the Tannehill comparison fits hand in glove. When coached by Adam Gase early in his career, Tannehill did not live up to expectations in Miami. When he got an opportunity in Tennessee, led by a strong leader in Mike Vrabel, Tannehill helped lead the Titans to an AFC Championship appearance.

The consensus belief is that Levis is the QB3-4 in this draft, landing him anywhere from fourth overall to Indianapolis to Tennessee at 11. Currently in the running for Levis are two first-time head coaches in Demeco Ryans and Shane Steichen, and veterans Pete Carroll, Dan Campbell, Arthur Smith and Mike Vrabel. Depending on which head coach brings in Levis, we will see which version of Tannehill we’ll get.

Will Levis Fantasy Football Projection

Based on most dynasty rookie mock drafts, Levis is being positioned outside the top-six picks, which I feel is the accurate price. There is a realistic chance that Levis finds himself on a team where he doesn’t play most of the year. Even with high upside, it’s hard to take him over the immediate impact Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jahmyr Gibbs will have. If Levis finds himself on a team with a competent head coach, he should be the 1.07 in every single superflex rookie draft and an early second-round pick in 1QB formats. In this scenario where Levis holds a clipboard his most of his rookie season, or at least until the team’s bye week, he is almost valueless in redraft leagues.
