Week 1 Start Sit Considerations: Sleepers (De'Von Achane + More) | Gerald Everett

Week 1 Shore Thing Sleepers (2023)

by IBT Media Staff

“Shore Thing Sleepers” isn’t your ordinary fantasy football Week 1 start/sit article. Instead, our analyst duo of Seth Woolcock and Eric Romoff highlight lower-valued players that can provide starting-caliber production for a specific week. These are usually players near the end of your bench or even on the waiver wire/free agency. You can catch an additional sleeper pick live at the end of our weekly in-season Friday podcast episode.

Rostership percentages are based on ESPN Points Per Reception (PPR) redraft fantasy football leagues.

Week 1 Start/Sit Consideration: Shore Thing Sleepers

De’Von Achane (RB, Miami Dolphins) | 27.2% Rostered

One of the key elements to consider when evaluating De’Von Achane’s potential for Week 1 is his pass-catching ability. In today’s game, running backs who can contribute as receivers are highly coveted in fantasy football. Achane’s versatility in this aspect could make him a valuable asset.  With Jeff Wilson Jr. unavailable, the Dolphins’ backfield situation becomes less crowded. This could lead to Achane getting more opportunities to showcase his skills.

In Week 1, the Miami Dolphins face the Los Angeles Chargers. This matchup suggests the potential for a high-scoring affair, where both teams may need to put up points to stay competitive. In such situations, running backs often see an increase in targets, making Achane an intriguing option. The Chargers’ defense struggled against opposing running backs last season, allowing the seventh-most PPR points to the position. This statistical tidbit further enhances Achane’s appeal and makes the case that he should be strongly considered in your Week 1 start/sit decisions. Romoff

Gerald Everett (TE, Los Angeles Chargers) | 48.5% Rostered

Look, we have some trouble in TE Paradise. With notable tight ends like Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, George Kittle and Darren Waller either out or potentially unavailable in Week 1, fantasy managers might be scrambling to find a reliable TE option. Gerald Everett could be that hidden gem.

Everett’s 14% target share from last year and the enthusiasm of his new offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, for featuring tight ends make him an interesting prospect. Everette already averaged 12.5 PPR points over the first month of last season. Now he gets the appealing matchup of the Mami Dolphins, who allowed the sixth-most PPR points to tight ends last season. In a game with the highest total (51) remaining on the slate, Everette’s upside is real. Woolcock
