Fantasy Football Advice: Week 12 Mailbag

What is Derrick Henry’s Rest of Season Value? – @Jzamudio24

Did he mess up by trading Derrick Henry and D’Onta Foreman for Jonathan Taylor and Romeo Doubs?

Evaluating the rest-of-season value of star players like Derrick Henry is always a critical fantasy football consideration, and the decision to trade him away adds another layer of complexity. Let’s break down the situation presented by @Jzamudio24, who traded Henry and D’Onta Foreman for Jonathan Taylor and Romeo Doubs.

Derrick Henry’s Rest-of-Season Outlook

Despite his reputation as a fantasy football powerhouse, Henry carries some risk for the remainder of the season. Currently ranked as a low-end RB2 on a points-per-game basis, he has had three games with fewer than six Points Per Reception (PPR) fantasy points this season. This includes a concerning trend of just 23 total touches in the past two weeks.

Adding to the uncertainty, Henry has been out-snapped by rookie Tyjae Spears in seven of 10 games, indicating a shift in the Tennessee Titans’ backfield dynamics. While still top four in rushing attempts (158), “King” Henry is no longer the top-shelf workhorse he once was.

On the positive side, the Titans have one of the better schedules for running backs ahead. They face Carolina, Indianapolis, Miami, Houston, Seattle and Houston again. However, the risk lies in the possibility that Tenensee’s front office could want to see more of Spears down the stretch. Also, one injury could potentially sideline Henry for the rest of the season as he heads toward free agency,

Derrick Henry Trade Analysis

The trade itself, involving Henry and Foreman for Taylor and Doubs is intriguing. Foreman’s injury concerns and the Titans’ recent struggles, particularly falling into negative game scripts, may have influenced the decision to move Henry.

On the other hand, Jonathan Taylor has been performing exceptionally well, averaging slightly more points than Henry per game (13.3 to 13.1). With five straight games of double-digit fantasy points, Taylor is rounding into peak form at a crucial point in the season. Additionally, the Colts are in contention for a playoff spot, and Taylor also faces an above-average strength of schedule for the rest of the season.

This trade’s final piece, Romeo Doubs – the PPR WR36 on a points-per-game basis – has outperformed established names like Chris Godwin and Cooper Kupp thus far, scoring in four of his last five games.

Bottom Line

Derrick Henry’s rest-of-season outlook has upside but is also marked with risk. The trade for Jonathan Taylor and Romeo Doubs seems to be a strategic move. Taylor’s current form, the Colts’ playoff push and the favorable upcoming schedule make this an appealing trade.

Still, the final assessment depends on your team’s overall needs, risk tolerance and the specific dynamics of your fantasy football league. As always, navigating the fantasy football landscape requires a careful consideration of various factors to make the best decisions for your team.
