2025 College Football Week 7 Preview: Best Bets & Devy Fantasy Football Storylines

by Phil Cartlich

Another week of college football is in the books and once again, Saturday delivered the kind of chaos only this sport can.

Alabama refused to let lightning strike twice, taking down previously unbeaten Vanderbilt 30-14. Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard in a statement win. Alabama also rediscovered balance on offense, as Jam Miller returned from injury with 136 rushing yards and a late score.

In Gainesville, the Florida Gators toppled Texas in “The Swamp,” with sophomore DJ Lagway showing real progress in a 29-21 win. The headline, however, belonged to the long-awaited debut of Dallas Wilson. The freshman exploded for 111 yards and two touchdowns on six catches. Devy players take note, as Wilson’s first impression was electric.

For Texas, Arch Manning flashed moments of brilliance amid growing pains. His touchdown to Tre Wisner showcased elite arm talent throwing on the run, but two interceptions underscored the inconsistency that continues to define his season.

Elsewhere, the Miami Hurricanes, led by quarterback Carson Beck, kept their momentum rolling and dispatched Florida State 28-22. Beck’s four touchdown passes, with two each to Malachi Toney and CJ Daniels, keep the quarterback firmly in the Heisman conversation.

The upset of the week came courtesy of Nico Iamaleava and UCLA, who stunned Penn State 45-31. Once left for dead, the Bruins snapped a four-game skid behind Iamaleava’s five total touchdowns and 128 rushing yards. On the other sideline, Drew Allar’s draft stock continues to slide after another flat performance for the Nittany Lions and devy investors may soon look to sell while his name still carries weight.

Now Week 7 is upon us, and the schedule is loaded! From ranked clashes to quarterback duels with NFL implications, this weekend has everything. Clear your calendar. You won’t want to be far from a screen.

Week 7 Games of the Week & Devy Storylines to Watch

Indiana Hoosiers (7) @ Oregon Ducks (3)

Autzen Stadium, Eugene, Ore. – Saturday, Oct. 11
Betting Odds:  Oregon -7.5 | Total:  55.5

It’s a top-ten Big Ten matchup that promises fireworks. Both teams sit at 5-0, but only one will leave Autzen Stadium unbeaten.

For Indiana, quarterback Fernando Mendoza has been one of college football’s breakout stars, guiding the Hoosiers with poise and precision. But Oregon’s defense is fast, deep and physical, and it will be a massive step up in competition.

Across the field, Dante Moore continues to look like the nation’s most complete quarterback. The former five-star recruit is dissecting defenses and protecting the football, throwing for over 1,200 yards with just one interception. His draft future is a growing topic; Moore could declare for 2026, but Oregon’s NIL leverage may convince him to stay another year. On the ground, the Ducks are thriving behind a two-headed freshman backfield of Dierre Hill and Jordon Davison. Their emergence has been so convincing that transfer Makhi Hughes has decided to redshirt and will likely enter the portal.

My Pick

Oregon -7.5
Autzen at night, Dante Moore’s efficiency and Oregon’s defensive front should prove too much for Indiana’s offense. Take the Ducks and the over in what could quietly be a statement win for Moore’s Heisman campaign.

Oklahoma Sooners (6) @ Texas Longhorns

Memorial Stadium, Austin, Texas – Saturday, Oct. 11
Betting Odds:  Texas -3.5 | Total:  42.5

The Red River Rivalry is back and while Oklahoma arrives without starting quarterback John Mateer, don’t expect the Sooners to roll over. Sophomore Michael Hawkins Jr. has stepped in following Mateer’s hand surgery. He looked sharp in a tune-up win over Kent State, but this will be a major leap in competition. Expect Oklahoma to lean on its deep running back rotation of Tory Blaylock, Jaydn Ott and Gavin Sawchuk to control tempo and limit offensive possessions for Texas.

Arch Manning continues to show incremental growth with the Longhorns. His chemistry with Ryan Wingo is getting better, and Tre Wisner’s return adds versatility to the backfield. The wild card is freshman Parker Livingstone, who’s questionable after taking a hit while reeling in a reception in Gainesville.

History says records and rankings don’t matter in this game, and with both defenses capable of forcing turnovers, expect momentum swings throughout.

My Pick

Oklahoma +3.5
This has the makings of a defensive slugfest. Take the points and also consider the under at 42.5 in what should be another one-score Red River showdown.

Devy Spotlight

Chris Brazzell (WR, Tennessee Volunteers; 2026)

Chris Brazzell plays receiver like a basketball power forward, using angles, leverage and size to box out defenders. His performance against Georgia was a masterclass in vertical separation and body control. What makes him special isn’t elite speed, but the ability to manipulate space and win at every level of the field.

The Vols receiver’s skillset fits perfectly in play-action systems that emphasize timing and intermediate breaks. His red zone presence adds immediate NFL value, and with another offseason in the weight room, he could climb into late first-round discussions. A rare mix of fluidity and technical polish makes Chris Brazzell a potential WR1 in waiting.

Denzel Boston (WR, Washington Huskies; 2026)

Denzel Boston is a technician built for NFL third downs. He thrives in the 15 to 25 yard window, using his size and body control to consistently move chains. Against Northwestern, his ability to shield defenders and work back to his quarterback stood out. That’s pro-level awareness.

Although he isn’t a burner, Boston’s combination of catch radius, balance and contested catch ability makes him a quarterback’s best friend. Expect him to thrive in a timing-based passing system that values reliability over flash. Denzel Boston projects as an early Day 2 pick who can contribute immediately as a possession and red zone target.

Germie Bernard (WR, Alabama Crimson Tide; 2026)

Reliable, refined and deceptively explosive, Germie Bernard is the kind of receiver coaches trust on third-and-seven. His intermediate route running and ball tracking make him a legitimate three-level threat, despite average testing numbers.

Bernard’s intelligence in finding soft spots against zone coverage gives him a professional polish that translates right away. He may not light up the combine, but he’ll find ways to stay on the field and produce. Expect his value to rise as NFL scouts gravitate toward high-floor, versatile receivers who can win with precision and timing.

2025 Heisman Trophy Outlook

Ty Simpson is this week’s biggest mover after back-to-back wins over Georgia and Vanderbilt. Another strong outing against Missouri could see his odds shorten again.

Dante Moore remains the front-runner despite a bye, which speaks volumes about his consistency. Carson Beck and Miami will also rest this week. Meanwhile, Jeremiah Smith, the only non-quarterback in the top five, faces an Illinois defense allowing over 40 points per game across its last three outings, so keep an eye on his odds.
