2024 Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum Betting Picks

Martin Truex Jr. (+850)

The belle of the ball at last year’s season-opening exhibition at the Los Angeles Coliseum was Martin Truex Jr. and his No. 19 team. The New Jersey native led the last 25 laps and claimed his spot on top of the podium, setting the stage for a three-win regular season in 2023.

In what could be Truex Jr.’s final full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series, it would surprise nobody if he could go back-to-back in the Clash. He is the joint favorite at +850 per DraftKings Sportsbook (even with Kyle Larson), showing I’m not the only one thinking that way.

Kyle Busch (+900)

Kyle Busch has been a strong contender in both runnings of the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum and favors to be running up front there again in 2024, with the joint-second-highest odds to win the race (+900 via DraftKings Sportsbook, even with William Byron).

The inaugural Clash at the Coliseum in 2022, kicking off his final season with Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), saw Busch lead the most laps (64) en route to a second-place finish. In 2023, “Rowdy” overcame adversity in his Richard Childress Racing (RCR) debut to finish P3. He’s already claimed the silver and bronze medal spots on the podium; why not take the top spot and the gold in 2024?

Ryan Preece (+2200)

The first full-time season with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) was unspectacular for Ryan Preece; his No. 41 team only had one T5 and two T10 finishes en route to a 23rd-place points finish. Still, Preece was the story of the Busch Light Clash last season, leading 43 laps late in the race before issues with the car forced him back to seventh. His odds of winning at the Coliseum are higher than we’ll see most weeks; his +2200 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook are even with Alex Bowman and SHR teammate Josh Berry.

Both Preece, the longtime short-track star in modifieds, and his SHR team are highly motivated to make 2024 better than 2023 across the board. Another good showing in the season-opening exhibition would go a long way toward raising the standards once more.

Austin Dillon (+3000)

Austin Dillon’s odds being this much of a longshot feels like a criminal oversight. Nineteen drivers (roughly half the field) are ahead of his +3000 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. Though he hasn’t led a lap at the Coliseum, Dillon’s No. 3 team has finished in third and second place in the Busch Light Clash since it has been at the Coliseum.

Has Dillon gotten the regular-season results as of late to impress? Of course not. He had seven T10s and just one T10s last year. But this isn’t a championship bet. The results have shown Dillon is one of the best at the Coliseum. His odds of once again being one spot better on the leaderboard in 2024 should not be as long as they are.
