2024 The Great American Getaway 400 Betting Picks: Outrights
Denny Hamlin (+400)
The easiest place to start this week is with the obvious favorite, Denny Hamlin. The No. 11 is worth every bit of the juice you’re drinking as a +400 on DraftKings. Hamlin has seven wins at Pocono and that doesn’t count when he crossed the finish line first in 2022 but was disqualified.
He’s led laps in every race at “The Tricky Triangle” every year since 2018, and outside of the disqualification, has only finished outside of the top 10 once in that same timeframe. He’s The Virginia native has also led a whopping 827 laps at Pocono in his career.
Kyle Larson (+500)
Hamlin’s fiercest competition will come from the same place it did last year at Pocono; I expect the No. 5 of Kyle Larson to be right on his back bumper all day. Larson has never won at Pocono (only thanks to an ill-fated 2021 tire failure), but it’s an underrated track for him. A +500 DraftKings outright is perfectly reasonable.
His P20 after contact with Hamlin last season was Larson’s only finish outside the top nine in the last five races in Long Pond, Pa. He has five T5s and nine T10s for his career here and has led at least 15 laps in four of the last six Pocono races.
Alex Bowman (+3000)
The beneficiary of both Larson’s flat tire in 2021 and the mixed tire strategies last week at the Chicago Street Course was Alex Bowman, taking the checkered flag in both events. The driver of the No. 48 broke an 80-race winless streak last Sunday, and Pocono is the perfect place for him to keep the strong momentum going. A +3000 outright on DraftKings is mighty attractive for the series’ defending winner.
Bowman ended up P24 last year but ran in the top five before spinning while battling Hamlin. Last year’s ride was sixth in ifantasyrace.com’s total speed rankings metric. In the four races prior in the mountains, Bowman finished no worse than P11.
