Tootsie’s Picks | Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef PrizePicks Predictions

On Sept. 2, the world will see the long-awaited faceoff between Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi in the Netflix special “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef” hosted by actor Rob Riggle and WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Garcia (formerly known as Nikki Bella).

Doing what, you ask? Well, it’s a hot dog eating contest, of course. Chestnut and Kobayashi have dominated the championship at the annual July 4 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest from 2002-2023, with 2015 being the only exception when Matthew Stonie took the title. Chestnut was banned from competing this year, and Patrick Bertoletti claimed the 2024 honor with 58 hot dogs eaten.

PrizePicks wants us to get in on the hot dog action yet again with lines for both Chestnut and Kobayashi. Let’s have some fun and make predictions for “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef.”

Joey Chestnut Out To Win

On the heels of the ban by Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, Joey Chestnut will want to redeem himself to America. Because who he is and what he does is all about demolishing hot dogs in the span of 10 minutes. In the 16 years that Chestnut took the title, his total finishes ranged from 54 to 76 hot dogs eaten. This whopping 76 was in 2021 and currently holds the world record.

Since prop bets are all about statistics, I calculated all his 16 championship totals. These added up to a remarkable 1,070 hot dogs that Chestnut has consumed on the Nathan’s stage. Can you even fathom picturing 1,070 hot dogs, let alone eating them? This total averages to 66.9 hot dogs per contest appearance. Joey Chestnut will have no trouble exceeding the PrizePicks line of 64 hot dogs eaten and prove once again that he is the ultimate champion. I’m smashing this over.

Kobayashi Back in the Ring

Takeru Kobayashi took the title of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in its very first year in 2002, with an even 50 hot dogs eaten. He went on to dominate the championship for the next four years. Facing Chestnut in both 2005 and 2006, Kobayashi finally met his match and succumbed to Chestnut’s dominance in 2007. He came second to Chestnut in both 2008 and 2009 and hasn’t appeared in the event since. Like Chestnut, he also faced a ban from Nathan’s in 2010 due to a contract dispute with Major League Eating, the organization that sanctioned the event.

Again calculating totals, I tallied up Kobayashi’s hot dogs eaten in Nathan’s contest to a total of 250.8, which averages to 50.2 per appearance. This PrizePicks line is close to that, but I’m taking the over. These two competitors haven’t faced each other since 2009. This is the time. Kobayashi will assert his competitiveness, rise to the occasion, and finish off more than 51 hot dogs.

Like July 4, Labor Day is a national U.S. holiday. Why not celebrate with hot dogs once again? Let’s sit back and watch these two top competitors down over a hundred hot dogs. Can you stomach it? Tune into “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef” this coming Monday!
