Is This Lewis Hamilton’s First Season Win? I 2025 British Grand Prix Picks

by Nicolette Rojo

After an entertaining Austrian Grand Prix, Formula 1 moves to the historic and famous British Grand Prix at Silverstone. This track was home to Formula 1’s first inaugural race 75 years ago.

Lando Norris picked up the big win in Austria to continue McLaren’s ongoing dominance, while Verstappen did not finish after a collision with Kimi Antonelli. McLaren is essentially a shoo-in to win the Contructor’s Championship, while Ferrari bounced back with a P3 and P4 from Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, respectively, but more on the legend later.

Looking to rebound after a bad week, Max Verstappen is one to keep an eye on, especially as rumors are heating up about the Dutch driver signing with Mercedes after this season. Red Bull is in shambles. For now, let’s head on to Silverstone, lads.

Let’s get it.

Is This Lewis Hamilton’s First Win? I 2025 British Grand Prix Picks

Silverstone is certainly one of the more favorable tracks in Formula 1. There are many fast and iconic turns, including Copse and Stowe corners. Stowe is the harder one, as it’s known for its speed and difficulty. The British Grand Prix is also a home race for a majority of the teams, including McLaren and Aston Martin. Teams with soft tires could struggle with the number of fast corners.

One big storyline to watch is how Lewis Hamilton fares in his home race. He has not won a race since last year at Silverstone and has struggled with Ferrari for most of the year. However, he has picked it up in the past few races, finishing with a season-high P4 in Austria.

It’s also a home race for Lando Norris and George Russell. Norris is noticeably getting more comfortable in the McLaren car and could go on a big run a month before the summer break. Russell was lonely in Austria after his teammate’s brutal rookie mistake, but finished strong.

Sir Lewis Hamilton is understandably a dark horse at +1800 outright, given Ferrari’s structure with the car and issues that are slowing it down. Regardless, Silverstone is a classic F1 track and always one of my personal favorite races.

2025 British Grand Prix Picks & Predictions

McLaren is still doing McLaren things, while Ferrari had a strong weekend and is going back and forth in the Constructor’s Championship. Their finish put them at 210 points, compared to Mercedes’ 209, so this will be something to watch down the line.

Red Bull is basically a wash. Between Yuki Tsunoda’s struggles and Max Verstappen wanting out, there is little faith in the team. Home race advantage typically plays a factor, despite the Dutch racer’s DNF last week. But I expect to see a bit of a change at podium this weekend.

  • Oscar Piastri (+155)
  • Lando Norris (+155)
  • Max Verstappen (+330)

Oscar Piastri (+155)

Oscar Piastri finished P2 in Austria and is arguably the most consistent driver of the season, so it makes sense that he is tied as the favorite. The Australian is still in the lead for the Driver’s Championship with 216 points, but his Papaya teammate is catching up with 201 points.

I think Silverstone is a make-or-break race for Piastri, not in terms of desperation, but for his individual performance. The McLaren car is perfect for Silverstone, but the volume of various corners could affect Piastri, especially if it rains. If it’s clear, then I’m more confident in him.

Piastri is never a bad bet to make, but I’m more confident in other drivers, particularly the British ones with the home fans empowering them.

Lando Norris (+155)

Lando Norris is more comfortable with the car than earlier this season, which makes it scary for his competitors. I believe he has settled into it at the right time to finish off strong a month before the summer break.

His consistency against Red Bull has shown and basically wiped them off the race for a bit. He’s improving in qualifying and finished third at Silverstone last season.
I’m bullish on the Brit this weekend. Home-track advantage plus consistent, strong driving equals an easy bet and money to be made.

However, I’m leaning towards dark horses this weekend, even though this will likely bite me.

Max Verstappen (+330)

At first, I was considering hammering Max Verstappen outright. He should be hellbent and more aggressive in Silverstone and his success on the track helps me. He finished P2 last year and won at Silverstone in 2023. The rain would give him an even bigger advantage.

However, this has changed for me. His frustration with Red Bull has grown exponentially, and there’s a rumor that he will sign with Mercedes next season to replace Russell and join Antonelli.

Could he still have a shot at the Driver’s Championship with a win at Silverstone? Yes, but given the success of the Papaya drivers and Ferrari picking it up, there is little reason to go all in for Red Bull and they are out of the Constructor’s Championship.

Verstappen also doesn’t need to prove himself. I would be surprised if he wins unless it rains, but unless weather permits, I’m fading him outright.

2025 British Grand Prix Dark Horse

Lewis Hamilton (+1800)

Does it make sense that Sir Lewis Hamilton is a dark horse in his home race? Yes and no. On one hand, he has not won in over a year and Ferrari’s incompetent decision-making gives me a little anxiety. Charles Leclerc has also been the faster driver this year.

On the other hand, Hamilton is the king of Silverstone. He has won 9 British Grand Prixs, the most at any Formula 1 race.

He finds a way to dominate Silvestone. Normally, trends are something to avoid in sports betting, especially with motorsports, but this is something I can see happening depending on the weather.

I’m a little overly bullish given Ferrari’s strategy, but there’s enough juice on the legend here, so I’ll take it. At the very least, take Hamilton at a Top 4 finish at +150.

Top 6 Finish Predictions

  1. Lewis Hamilton
  2. Lando Norris
  3. Charles Leclerc
  4. George Russell
  5. Oscar Piastri
  6. Max Verstappen
