Tank Bigsby 2023 Fantasy Football Rookie Profile
Overview
Tank Bigsby is a junior running back prospect from Auburn University. Arriving in Auburn as a five-star recruit, Bigsby was named co-SEC Freshman of the Year, sharing the honor with Connor Bazelak of the University of Missouri in 2020.
As a freshman, Bigsby gained 834 on just 138 carries, averaging six Yards Per Carry (YPC). His 1,099 rushing yards as a sophomore were his career-high. Bigsby’s 25 career rushing scores rank eighth all-time in school history. That is no small feat at a school with legends like Bo Jackson and Cadillac Williams.
In addition to his football accomplishments, Bigsby was a decorated track and field athlete at Auburn and in high school, competing in the long jump, 100-meter dash and 400-meter dash.
Pros
• NFL size
• Hits hole quickly
• Big-play capability
• Good field vision
• Explosive burst
Cons
• Limited work in passing game
• Upright running style
• Average-at-best pass-blocker
• Somewhat shaky contact balance
Tank Bigsby Player Comparison
Nick Chubb (RB, Cleveland Browns)
Finding a player comparison for Bigsby proved difficult. However, I went with a player he admittedly watches and admires. Like Nick Chubb, Bigsby figures to do his damage primarily as an early-down thumper. He will likely leave the field on third downs due to his potentially limited role as a pass-catcher.
The two players are of similar size, with bodies built to take the punishment dealt out to NFL running backs. Chubb is a bit bigger than Bigsby, although the latter has a frame favorable to adding a little weight. Both players benefit greatly from their patience as runners and are quick to hit a developing hole. Like Chubb, Bigsby is a pure north/south runner who can score on any given play.
Tank Bigsby Fantasy Football Projection
Bigsby figures to be a second-day selection in the upcoming NFL Draft. If that’s the case, Bigsby could be called upon to carry a decent share of the load in his future NFL team’s backfield as a rookie. He has the skill set to eventually become the lead ball carrier in an NFL offense.
In redraft formats, Bigsby is currently projected as a later-round draft pick. Given his potential workload, he could easily return dividends as a double-digit round draft choice. Getting him later than the 12th round should represent value.
In dynasty leagues, Bigsby will likely be a second-round rookie draft pick in most leagues, both in superflex and 1QB formats. Bigsby will be 22 years old by the time the 2023 NFL season kicks off. As a relatively young prospect, he should have decent longevity as a dynasty asset. Given the uncertainty of his ability as a pass catcher, Bigsby is more appealing in standard formats rather than Points Per Reception (PPR).
