Tootsie’s Picks: NFL Week 9 PrizePicks Player Predictions (2023)

by Rachel (@tootsiepop6)

Well, we have reached Week 9 of this NFL season. It seems crazy to say we are halfway! Once again, last week proved to be scathing once again with its numerous injuries. Is it just me, or does it seem like the sheer number of them is more this year?  Anyway, let’s dive back in and have some fun with player props. Here are my best NFL Week 9 PrizePicks player predictions.

NFL Week 9 PrizePicks Player Predictions

Sam Howell (QB, Washington Commanders) More Than 241.5 Passing Yards

In these first eight games of the 2023 season, quarterback Sam Howell of the Washington Commanders has averaged 268.25 passing yards. Going against the New England Patriots will allow the Commanders to pass a lot. In the last two weeks, both Josh Allen and Tua Tagovailoa have exceeded 260 passing yards going against the Patriots. Howell’s talent is right up there with these other top-10 quarterbacks. With his offensive corps, there’s no reason he can’t and won’t exceed the 241.5 passing yards for this PrizePicks prop.

T.J. Hockenson (TE, Minnesota Vikings) More Than 49.5 Receiving Yards

Is it fact or fiction that a rookie quarterback favors the tight end position? Due to Kirk Cousins’ season-ending injury last week, it is rookie quarterback Jaren Hall taking the start for the Minnesota Vikings against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9. With Justin Jefferson still on Injured Reserve (IR) and his already established role on the offense, tight end T.J. Hockenson will be a strong receiving option for Hall.

When facing the Falcons this season, tight ends Sam LaPorta, Evan Engram and Dalton Schultz have all exceeded 55 receiving yards. It remains to be seen if it’s true that rookie QBs favor tight ends. But in this case, we lean on Hockenson’s talent and the reason Minnesota traded for him last season. Smash the more on the line of 49.5 receiving yards for Hockenson.

Geno Smith (QB, Seattle Seahawks) Less Than 17.0 Fantasy Score

In his last five games, quarterback Geno Smith has averaged 12.7 fantasy points. The Baltimore Ravens are a staunch defense against allowing fantasy points to the quarterback position. The average for the 2023 season thus far is a piddly 11.3 fantasy points per game. Not to mention, this will be an away game in the early window for the Seattle Seahawks. Expect a quiet showing for Geno Smith and take the less on his fantasy score with this PrizePicks prop.
