2024 Bank of America ROVAL 400 Betting Picks: Outrights
AJ Allmendinger (+750)
It’s going to be difficult to bet against either of the pair of Kaulig Racing road-course ringers this weekend. Compared to Shane van Gisbergen’s +400, AJ Allmendinger’s +750 DraftKings outright feels much more reasonable. Allmendinger, who will be driving the No. 16, is the defending winner of this race. He also has a P4 and P7 at the ROVAL in the Cup Series and has won all four of his Xfinity Series starts here.
In this year’s road-course events, Allmendinger has a pair of P6 finishes at Sonoma and COTA. He was knocked out early at Watkins Glen due to a mechanical issue and crashed out at Chicago.
Chase Elliott (+1200)
Although he still hasn’t won a road course race in the Next-Gen car, the ROVAL leads me back to Chase Elliott, nevertheless. The Georgia native won back-to-back ROVAL races in 2019 and 2020 and has led laps in each race here except the track’s 2018 debut.
The No. 9 has a pair of additional T10s at the ROVAL, including a P9 last year. Elliott’s best road course finish this season is a P4 at Sonoma.
Michael McDowell (+1800)
In this column last week, I sent off Martin Truex Jr. for the season, and this week, I’ll do the same for Michael McDowell. The ROVAL represents the last reasonable chance for “McNasty” to win with Front Row Motorsports (FRM), and it’s a more than realistic one.
Although McDowell hasn’t had impressive results at the ROVAL, with no T10s and only 3 T20s, he’s shined on road courses throughout most of 2024. The No. 34 finished runner-up at Sonoma, P5 at Chicago and P7 a few weeks ago at Watkins Glen.
