Black Desert Championship 2024 Prop Bet of the Week
Top 10 Finish: Keith Mitchell (+220)
The Black Desert Championship is one of the lower field-strength tournaments we’ve seen this year, giving us an interesting opportunity from a PGA betting perspective. With this in mind, I’m leaning heavily into the course comparison side of analysis. Black Desert Resort is playing 7,371 yards with four par-3s and three par-5s. It is also nearly 3,000 feet above sea level, meaning this course will not play as long as the card suggests. As a result, we’re going to roll with Keith Mitchell this week.
Mitchell is a very underrated player who has mostly struggled due to his putting issues. On the one hand, he is eighth on the entire PGA Tour in strokes gained total, strokes gained off the tee and strokes gained approach-to-green. The putting issues have been the bane of his performances, though, as he ranked 140th in strokes gained putting. However, with this course and similar courses likely favoring the approach game more than putting, this shot is one I’m willing to take.
Mitchell also gets a bump here for recent form, as his last three appearances have all resulted in no worse than a top-12 finish. Lucas Glover and Chris Kirk are the only top-50 golfers here in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR); there is no clear “favorite.” With this in mind, I’ll take my shot with one of the better ball-strikers in the field.
