Latavius Murray Remains the 1.01 of Fantasy Football Floor Plays

When I first started really watching football, it was around the 2017 season. I remember closely watching and paying attention to the players and trying to pick out favorites. One of the favorites I selected was none other than running back Latavius Murray. I liked his burst in how he charged through defenders. Murray played with the Vikings for two seasons.

Last season, when Murray played with the Denver Broncos, I remember having to start him in my fantasy lineup a couple of times after my running backs were plagued with injuries. He wasn’t a sexy pick by any means, but he came through for me in putting up some points. Reliability. Latavius Murray has been and is the very definition of a floor player in fantasy football.

In fantasy football, analysts will often talk about floor players versus shooting for the upside. By picking a floor player, you’re selecting someone who is safe. This is someone who will give you a handful of points consistently. You can bank on that. On the contrary, an upside player can give you a significant amount of points but, on the same note, could very well give you a fat goose egg. When putting together a starting lineup, a fantasy player should balance their team with both types of players.

This 2023 season, Latavius Murray is on the Buffalo Bills. At the start of the year, he was listed third on the running back depth chart. He is now the No. 2 ahead of Damien Harris. Murray is averaging 4.5 Yards Per Carry (YPC) and eight Yards Per Reception (YPR) while scoring two touchdowns so far this season. He is currently the Points Per Reception (PPR) RB31. Of note, Chargers running back Joshua Kelley, who took over as the RB1 with Austin Ekeler injured, is RB38.

Murray is 33 years old, and he’s always been steady Eddy for fantasy football. Don’t expect him to give you high-end numbers. He won’t. But Murray is a floor player. He gets carries, he gets targets and the end zone loves him.

This isn’t a waiver wire article – but if it were, I might tell you to get all aboard the Tay Train.
