COTA TIERS

Driver As | The Elites

Tyler Reddick won this race going away last season despite an extra pit stop and numerous overtimes. He’s the best road course racer in the Next Gen car in most advanced analytics. I’m treating NASCAR DFS a lot like F1 DFS this week and making sure the heavy favorite is in my lineup.

Alex Bowman is by far the best value in the field at $7,700 on DraftKings and $18.13 on DraftKings. Bowman’s finishes at COTA include a P8, P2 and P3. It’s hard to think he won’t be somewhat chalky at this price, but he needs to be in lineups regardless, heralding T5 upside. Ross Chastain is No. 2, behind only Reddick in the COTA Next-Gen total speed rankings (courtesy of ifantasyrace.com). He’ll beat and bang and – if he stays on track – score another T10 finish.

Don’t overlook Ty Gibbs, who finished P9 in this race a year ago and P3 in the Xfinity Series here last year. The 21-year-old leads the Cup Series in T10s (four) and is obtainable at $8,700 on DraftKings and $20.25 on Fantrax.

Driver Bs | Point-Getters

Daniel Suarez is the definition of a boom-bust NASCAR DFS play this week. He had started top-five on the grid the past two years and is No. 8 on the COTA Next Gen total speed rankings. However, he has yet to finish better than P28 here. Bubba Wallace‘s finishes couldn’t be worse at COTA, but he has steadily improved at road courses, is on the same team as Reddick, and was ninth in the total speed rankings a year ago. I’ll bite, specifically on DraftKings, where he’s $6,700 and should offer leverage.

I’m not interested in playing Chase Elliott on DraftKings at $10,300, as we haven’t seen him run up front consistently since 2022. Still, I will play him on Fantrax at a discounted $19.39. After all, it is one of the best road course racers of all time, who won a rain-filled race here in 2021 that we’re talking about. Piloting A.J. Allmendinger’s former No. 16 car is Shane van Gisbergen. He’s a high-upside wild card after winning in his NASCAR debut at Chicago Street last year and qualifying second for this week’s Xfinity Series race. He’s an auto-lock for $5 on Fantrax and in the conversation on DraftKings at $9,500.

Driver Cs | In the Mix

Kyle Larson is overpriced to me on DraftKings at $10,2000, as is Christopher Bell ($10,000) and Martin Truex Jr. ($9,800). They’re all high-level road course racers but lack the history at COTA to make them worth their prices. They’re all still in tier-one equipment, so this isn’t a full fade, but I’ll be limiting my exposure in NASCAR DFS lineups unless they unload fast.

Instead, I’ll likely invest more in Denny Hamlin ($8,200) and Chris Buescher ($7,800). Hamlin for his equipment and occasional speed on more traditional-style road courses. Buescher for his overall consistently on road courses (sixth in the road course Next Gen total speed rankings).

Driver Ds | Could Do Worse

If you want Reddick in your NASCAR DFS lineup, you’ll have to throw a few drats. My favorite may be John Hunter Nemechek, who is in the top 15 in the points, has two T10s and no finishes worse than P25. Chase Briscoe had his moment in the sun as a good road course racer in the Xfinity Series once upon a time. He’s serviceable at best in the Cup Series at them, but he still has a P15 and P6 at COTA. It’s worth a look on DraftKings at $7,100.

Driver Fs | The Junk Drawer

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. had a fluky P7 finish here last year that I’m not buying into. Still, he’s probably your man if you’re relying on someone in this week’s F-Tier, costing just $5,500 on DraftKings. You can also kick the tires on Carson Hocevar for $800 more on DraftKings and $5.52 in total on Fantrax. The Cup Series rookie has two T10s at COTA in the Truck Series.
