Week 8 Fantasy Football Advice Mailbag
Dynasty Fantasy Football: I lost Chris Godwin. Would You Trade Him & a 2026 Second-Rounder for Darnell Mooney, Jalen McMillan & Keon Coleman? – @Thefluff
Context: @Thefluff also noted that their window to win the championship is closing, but they still have a good team. He also doesn’t own any of his own picks for next year’s draft, so they might as well go “all-in.” Also, this is a 12-team superflex league with Points Per Reception (PPR) scoring and a TE Premium.
With the trade deadline nearing for most dynasty fantasy football leagues, trade talks are heating up, and this is a unique one at hand here. Like many other fantasy rosters, Chris Godwin was lost for the season after suffering a gruesome dislocated ankle. Still, we should take a look at what Godwin’s value dynasty looks like.
Luckily, we can all use our Dynasty Trade Value chart for superflex leagues, which makes it easy to track and compare trade asset values! Bookmark it if you have future dynasty trade questions.
Before we break down each scenario, make sure you understand what you plan to do for your team, especially if it’s a long-term dynasty superflex league. Roster builds matter, too, but the value is more important regardless of whether you’re competitive.
Chris Godwin’s Dynasty Trade Value
As noted, the Penn State product is out for the season after dislocating his ankle with less than a minute left in the game. Whether you want to speculate why he was in the game down 10 is a whole different story. We’ll just focus on his dynasty value is. Using that chart, Godwin’s value is set at 165.
The eight-year veteran was setting the league on fire despite being the second receiver in the Buccaneers’ offense. He was also the PPR WR2 this season! The sneaky context is that this was a contract year. This means that if he signs with a new team next year, his potential could be through the roof! I think he is more than ready to be a WR1 for an offense that needs it. I am also more than welcome to see him in the same position he is now, even though the injury might take him some time to get back into the groove of things.
To The Moon-ey?
The trio of wide receivers sent in this offer is enticing, especially for a fantasy owner in “all-in” mode. Darnell Mooney has been a pleasant surprise this season! He is currently the PPR WR17 and is averaging 13.1 fantasy points per game. He signed a three-year contract with the Falcons this offseason, with a potential out in the 2026 season. Leaving Chicago and being paired with Kirk Cousins has been worthwhile for Mooney, hence making him the best WR of this trio at a dynasty trade value of 70.
Rookie Wide Receivers
Next up is Jalen McMillan. The Buccaneers selected the receiver out of Washington with the 92nd pick of this year’s NFL Draft. He’s had an up-and-down rookie season so far. He had to miss two games due to injury and was WR3/4 in this offense behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. He is now left with big shoes to fill for the short term. Entering this week, he doesn’t just have to help replace Godwin. He also has to step up in the absence of Evans, who also left with a hamstring injury in Week 7.
McMillan’s eight targets on “Monday Night Football” were a season-high! But once Evans returns from injury, he will return to a secondary or tertiary pass-catching role, and I don’t think he can put up the numbers that Godwin was putting up. His dynasty trade value is at 50.
Last up, we have Keon Coleman. The promising rookie, selected 33rd overall, started his season in a rough patch. Ranked as the PPR WR49 this season, he is coming off his best game! In Week 7, Coleman produced a season-high in targets (seven), receiving yards (125) and fantasy points (16.5)! Impressively, that all came in a game after the Bills traded for Amari Cooper on the previous Tuesday. He is starting to emerge as a top wide receiver with Josh Allen and can actually co-exist with Cooper. Coleman’s dynasty trade value is currently at 65, the second-highest of the trio.
The Verdict
According to the trade value chart, this trade is uneven. Chris Godwin and the 2026 second-round pick are at a combined value of 255. The wide receivers Mooney, McMillan, and Coleman have a value of 185. While @Thefluff may think his window is closing and he has to be in “all-in” mode, this doesn’t equal Godwin’s dynasty trade value. Also, he has no 2025 picks, so I would love to see him keep his 2026 picks!
While it may suck during the remaining part of the season, I recommend he keeps who he has! He can also consider widening his window with trades for other players and other parts of your roster! There’s no need to go all-in for one season; go for multiple!
