NFL Week 8 Player Prop Bets of the Week (2024)

DeVonta Smith (WR, Philadelphia Eagles) | Over 55.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Week 7 was an anomaly for the Eagles’ offense; Jalen Hurts only mustered 114 yards passing. Eighty-nine of those yards went to A.J. Brown, which shut DeVonta Smith out to the tune of a single catch for a two-yard loss. Expect that to change on Sunday.

The Bengals allow 143.4 passing yards per game, which is a bit skewed because they’ve been so bad against the run that teams have stuck to that game plan. Expect them to load the box to stop Saquon Barkley, leaving the middle of the field open for business for Smith, who does most of his damage from the slot. Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo’s “bend-don’t-break” soft zone will be ripe for the picking by the former Alabama wideout. Prior to last week’s debacle, Smith had eclipsed 55.5 yards in each of his other four games this season (64, 79, 76 and 84).

Russell Wilson (QB, Pittsburgh Steelers) | Under 199.5 Passing Yards (-115)

Russell Wilson did what Mike Tomlin needed him to do in Week 7, jumpstarting George Pickens and the passing game. Wilson lobbed two touchdown passes and 264 yards on just a 55.2% completion percentage. They’ll likely see more of the same game script this week versus the Giants as they did in that game against the Jets. Running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren combining for 146 yards seems like an easy goal to attain and then some.

This is still a ball-control offense. Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is elated to have Warren healthy and also utilize his tight ends (surprise, surprise) for short gains that keep the clock moving. Don’t expect Pat Freiermuth to average 25.5 Yards Per Reception (YPR) again, though. At the end of the day, Wilson won’t be asked to win this game with his arm, and the New York Giants surrender just 179.4 passing yards per game (the sixth-fewest in the NFL), with a league-leading 31 sacks.

Javonte Williams (RB, Denver Broncos) | 70+ Rushing Yards (+120)

Javonte Williams is clearly the top back in the Denver backfield and is coming off a cool 88-yard effort against the New Orleans Saints. He’s had rotten luck with the schedule, having faced the Chargers’, Jets’ and Steelers’ defenses in 2024. It’s only fair that he be rewarded with a juicy matchup against the worst rushing defense in the NFL. The Panthers cede 162.1 yards per game on the ground, including a whopping 214 last week against the Commanders.

Compound that with the fact that Bryce Young will reportedly start the game in place of Andy Dalton (thumb) and will be without Diontae Johnson. Carolina is unlikely to put together many sustained drives against the vaunted Broncos’ defense. That leaves Williams to eat the clock and perhaps even put together several chunk plays. I expect this total to hit in the third quarter, and Williams will finish with the most carries he’s had in 2024 (his previous high was 16 carries on Sep. 19).

Best of luck with all of your bets this weekend. Brick by brick, we build!
