2024 Hollywood Casino 400: NASCAR DFS Picks, Tiers & Rankings
Driver As | The Elites
The best of the best in Kansas are your two most expensive drivers in the $11,000 range. Kyle Larson ($11,500) and Denny Hamlin ($11,000) have blown the competition out of the water, with both drivers averaging more than 69 NASCAR DFS points and having more than 20 fast laps and many laps led at Kansas. They also make up two of the top three in the Kansas Next-Gen total speed rankings, courtesy of ifantasyrace.com, and usually have the top 10 long-run speed.
Driver Bs | Point-Getters
Tyler Reddick ($10,500) and Christopher Bell ($10,300) have fast cars in Kansas but are inconsistent in NASCAR DFS scoring. They have either fallen back from their starting spot or finished worse than No. 20 at least once. I have more confidence in Reddick, as he is second in the high-speed intermediate total speed rankings. Also, the No. 45 car (once with Bubba Wallace driving) has won the last two fall races, so we will see if Reddick can keep the streak alive.
The other three drivers are the best value for this weekend’s race. All three drivers are from $8,500 to $8,000, and their cars have recently shown some top 10 speed at Kansas. Alex Bowman ($8,000) is the most consistent of the three, as he has back-to-back 40-plus point fantasy outputs. He has a top-10 streak for all Kansas Next-Gen races he has run. His price tag does not match how competitive his car is.
Driver Cs | In the Mix
One week after being eliminated from his last full-time playoff, Martin Truex Jr. ($9,500) is looking to try and get one win in his final full-time season. Truex Jr.’s previous fall Kansas race ended early with a crash into the wall from a blown tire. Truex Jr. has scored over 50 DFS points in all Kansas races where he has not crashed. He is fourth in the Next-Gen total speed rankings and ahd top 10 long-run speed in the spring. “MTJ” is this low because he has not had a top-10 result since Pocono or scored more than 40 points since Nashville.
Bubba Wallace ($9,000) and Kyle Busch ($8,800) have also had misfortunes in Kansas but have had some competitive cars. Buch and Wallace are seventh and ninth in the Kansas Next-Gen total speed rankings, respectively. Even with the team change for “Rowdy,” the No. 8 car has shown top-10 speed in both 2023 and 2024 here. Wallace was solid at Kansas in 2023 but lukewarm in 2024. Both can score over 40 points and pay their price tag with a solid top-10 result.
Driver Ds | Could Do Worse
Chase Briscoe ($8,100) and Daniel Suarez ($7,400) are two drivers who perform well at the fall playoff race but not so much in the spring. Both scored over 30 points in the fall, and I am keeping my eye on Briscoe. After his win at Darlington, the 14-car team has shown top-10 speed on non-drafting tracks and has also been scoring top-10 fantasy results. This momentum is critical, as he is looking to move on into the Round of 8 with very slim odds.
My favorite cheap options available for this NASCAR DFS slate are Todd Gilliland ($6,000) and Justin Haley (6,400). They both have a solid floor of at least 25 points, and that is all you need for drivers in the $5-6K range. In the spring, both qualified poorly but found their way into the top 20, and we will need them to do the same to payoff rostering them.
Drive Fs | The Junk Drawer
Carson Hocevar ($6,600) is my favorite F-Tier driver here. He has shown top-20 speed on 1.5-mile tracks, and Spire Motorsports is on the uptick, as he and Zane Smith finished in the top 20 last week at Bristol after T5 Watkins Glen runs. Hocevar’s NASCAR DFS scores are not excellent here, but I think he can break through to score more than 25 fantasy points this week.
Legacy Motor Club is the cheapest I would go. Jimmie Johnson ($5,800) is usually decent here in Kansas, and Legacy has brought top-25 cars to intermediate tracks. For the full-time drivers, both Erik Jones ($6,300) and John Hunter Nemechek ($5,600) have also had a couple of 30-point performances on mile-and-a-half tracks. Legacy is looking to finish the 2024 season on a strong note and move towards a better 2025.
