NASCAR DFS Picks, Tiers & Rankings: 2024 Xfinity 500
Driver As | The Elites
The three most expensive drivers are priced at the right amount, as all three have won a Martinsville race in the 2010s or 2020s. Kyle Larson ($11,500), Ryan Blaney ($11,000)ย and Denny Hamlin ($11,500) also have the fastest cars based on the Martinsville Next-Gen total speed rankings, courtesy of ifantasyrace.com. Another reason to cram two or even all three into your NASCAR DFS lineup is they will be racing for their spot in the Championship 4. All three should get at least 50-plus fastest laps and be the top-three lap leaders of the field.
Driver Bs | Point-Getters
While the Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) cars are consistently good at Martinsville, the Fords are also good. Joey Logano ($9,800) and Chase Briscoe ($8,500) are the other two-fastest Fords after Blaney. Each driver has averaged over 40 NASCAR DFS points in their Next-Gen era at Martinsville and at least once led 100 laps and had over 50 fastest laps. Briscoe is fourth and Logano is sixth in the Martinsville Next-Gen total speed rankings.
Christopher Bell’s ($10,300) Martinsville stats don’t make him stand out. However, if you look at the fall race individually, he is excellent here in the playoffs. He’s been second and fifth in total speed rankings at the last two fall Martinsville races, scoring over 40 fantasy points. In 2022, Bell won this race to secure a spot in the Championship 4.ย He must run well to make the Championship 4 this year, as he is just 29 points above the cutline.
Driver Cs | In the Mixย
Bubba Wallace ($7,800) and Alex Bowman ($7,800) again seem underpriced. Bowman has had top-10 NASCAR DFS results in the past two weeks, and his HMS car has come alive in the playoffs. “The Showman” has had top-10 speed at Martinsville in the Next-Gen era and should look to run well again this weekend. Wallace’s results at Martinsville have also been decent. He’s averaging over 30 points and has two 50-point performances in the five races.
Ryan Preece ($6,900) grew up racing on short tracks and has a fast Ford Mustang for a track he likes. Preece is 11th in the Martinsville Next-Gen total speed rankings and has two 40-plus point finishes. He seems like the best pick for any driver under $7,000, and with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) closing, he is looking to get another good finish on his resumรฉ while still looking for a 2025 ride.
Driver Ds | Could Do Worse
Ty Gibbs ($8,700) and Brad Keselowski ($8,000) were two “what-ifs” of the fall playoff race last year. Both drivers qualified in the top 10 yet got wrecked in stage three. Logano bumped Gibbs and sent him spinning, and Keselowski had nowhere to go and hit him. Before the wreck, each driver had a top-10 speed and scored stage points. Both drivers seem to have fallen off a bit after having such competitive cars at the start of the season, being eliminated in the Round of 16.
Josh Berry ($7,300) and Todd Gilliand ($6,600) are sneaky-fast Fords some NASCAR DFS managers overlook. Gilliand ranks 19th in the Martinsville Next-Gen total speed rankings, and Berry was 13th in the spring race total speed rankings. The former is coming off two 30-plus fantasy performances at Martinsville, while the latter scored 54.3 points at the last flat track at New Hampshire. Each should run well this weekend; it wouldn’t surprise me if they finish in the top 10.
Driver Fs | The Junk Drawer
Carson Hocevar ($6,700) is on the rise. He had a ninth-place finish last weekend after what some thought was too high of a qualifying spot for NASCAR DFS purposes. A similar movement is possible this weekend by qualifying too well and slipping back to a worse finish. In the spring, Hocevar was 21st in the total speed rankings and finished 17th after starting 25th. If he were to qualify poorly, I would consider him a top cheap play; he has speed and the ability to gain positions.
Corey LaJoie ($5,400), Harrison Burton ($5,500)ย and Daniel Hemric ($5,200) are the least-expensive drivers I would play on the slate. All three have the potential to move up if they survive the chaos and have some semblance of race pace. I predict all three will qualify poorly and can be the cheapest place differential plays to gelp fit other expensive drivers into your lineup.
