Episode Recap

Camp Life

The castaways return to camp, and Rick and Emily acknowledge that they are firmly on the bottom. They tried turning on Ozzy, but Ozzy made the right connections and they were unable to secure the votes. Rick admits to the whole group that he does not have an idol, and shows them the pocket square that was wrapped up in the idol packaging from the one he and Christian sent to Aubry.

Aubry states that it’s time to make a big move, as there are fewer pieces left on the board. Included in her confessional is a flashback to Michele winning “Survivor Kaoh Rong,” the season in which Aubry placed second. She mentions that making moves at the end of the game can get you the win, and it remains to be seen if she will be able to execute those.

Joe and Ozzy both want Rick and Emily to go. There’s no love lost between Joe and Rick, and Emily tried to flip on Ozzy when he had her back since the beginning of the game. Emily does admit to Ozzy that she had a Day One alliance with Christian and Rick, which is why she was unwilling to let Christian go home.

The Auction

"Survivor 50" Episode 10 Recap + Castaway Betting Odds

The players arrive for the Reward Challenge, and for the first time since “Survivor 45,” the auction is back! Each player is given $500 to spend on either visible or covered items or keep for themselves. The theme for the auction is “Chaos or Comfort.” Some items will have comfort, some will have chaos and comfort.

Many players win food items to start the auction; there are a few instances where one player must eat a larva or sea slug so another can enjoy fried chicken or cookies. Once the food items are exhausted, the players are given the choice to put down $20 for items of significant comfort. Each player agrees. The comfort provided is letters from home. But the potential chaos… comes from a briefcase created by YouTube legend MrBeast.

MrBeast joins the castaways at the auction and some of them are floored. He presents them with a briefcase that says “beware,” containing a “Super Beware Advantage.” This advantage will not be revealed until Tribal Council, and the players ponder the potential behind it.

Immunity Challenge

"Survivor 50" Episode 10 Recap + Castaway Betting Odds

The castaways go directly from the auction to the Immunity Challenge. They compete in yet another endurance and balance challenge, where the castaways must balance a ball on a wooden bow while standing on a beam. The beam gets incrementally narrower as the challenge progresses. If a player loses their ball or falls off the beam, they are out.

Stephenie is the first to drop out of the challenge, followed shortly after by Cirie, Rizo and Emily. Tiff, Joe, Ozzy, Jonathan and Rick make it to the final point of the beam, but Rick immediately drops on the transition. Both Jonathan and Joe drop shortly after, and we get a showdown between Tiffany and Ozzy, who has been competitive in every single Individual Immunity challenge so far. Tiffany outlasts Ozzy and wins immunity!

Pre-Tribal Camp Life

Letters from home are delivered to the castaways, and Ozzy says his is a “good reminder for why he is playing the game.” Cirie receives her first-ever letter from her dad, and she laughs at his bad handwriting. Aubry reads her letter and reflects on playing “Survivor” for the first time since becoming a mom.

The players mobilize for the vote, with Aubry wanting to make a move on Ozzy. Jonathan and Stephanie want Ozzy out as well, and reach out to Rick and Joe to gather the numbers for an Ozzy vote. Rick is very open to making a move here. Joe, however, leaks the vote to Cirie and Tiffany, as he would prefer a Rick vote.

Ozzy then leaks to Jonathan that he knows his name is out, but Jonathan denies that he pushed his name. Cirie and Stephenie talk about the vote, and Cirie can tell immediately that Stephenie is lying. A Rizo vote is then discussed as an alternative, and Stephenie says she will steal Ozzy’s vote to try and flush his idol.

Tribal Council

Tribal commences, and the MrBeast Super Beware Advantage is a popular topic of conversation. Cirie says, “not one plan stood for more than thirty seconds, all because of the uncertainty MrBeast brings.” Stephenie wants people to stick to the plan, but Rick blows her plan up at tribal. He also leaks her Steal a Vote advantage, and she owns up to having one. Stephenie goes on the defensive and says she would never go against Ozzy, while Rick continues to discredit her. Jeff is intrigued by the discussion and says, “it’s the most fascinating tribal [he’s] ever witnessed.”

MrBeast Super Beware Advantage

"Survivor 50" Episode 10 Recap + Castaway Betting Odds

MrBeast, or as Jeff calls him, Jimmy, is in attendance at tribal. Before the vote, the MrBeast Super Beware Advantage is revealed. It is a coin, and it must be flipped by one member of the tribe. If the tribe members cannot decide amongst themselves, they will draw rocks. Flipping the coin comes with immense risk and reward:

  • Reward: an extra $1,000,000 added for the winner, immunity and an idol to the coin flipper if the coin lands on the right side
  • Risk: the person who flipped the coin is eliminated from the game and there will be no tribal if the coin lands on the wrong side

The players are shocked by this announcement, but one man has no fear. Rick Devens immediately volunteers to flip the coin. The players chat amongst themselves and ultimately are fine with Rick flipping the coin. The coin has the MrBeast logo as “Heads,” and since Rick’s kids like MrBeast, he chooses “Heads.” Rick flips the coin and… it lands on heads! All of the players cheer, except for Joe, Rick’s arch nemesis.

Tribal Council pt 2

Rick is safe, and tribal commences again. The castaways partake in a live tribal, a sign that Rick was likely receiving votes here if he was not immune. Aubry’s name is thrown out, as are Stephenie’s and Emily’s. Ozzy tells Stephenie she should be fine here and to save her Steal a Vote. Jeff calls for the castaways to vote, and Stephenie decides to steal Rick’s vote. Jeff tallies the votes, and Stephenie goes home 8-2, with her vote and Rick’s stolen vote on Aubry.

Survivor 50 Castaway Betting Odds

"Survivor 50" Episode 10 Recap + Castaway Betting Odds

Each week, I’ll rank and pair the remaining “Survivor 50” castaways with betting odds to win the game. These odds are subject to change after each episode. When castaways are eliminated, edits become clearer. As a result, win equities will diverge, and odds will become more favorable to some and less favorable to others.

Cirie maintains the top spot, and the gap between her and Rizo increases. Her presence is just so much larger than his and her reads on the game are pristine. The way she clocks Stephenie here is impressive, and she continues to protect Ozzy, who is one of the only people here in this game who would be willing to go to the end with her.

Aubry continues to receive significant content, but she has yet to make a move that truly throws off the power structure. If this does happen, I think it would be because her ally Rick now has an idol courtesy of the Super Beware Advantage.

Joe and Jonathan land on the bottom for me here. Neither of them has enough agency to make the moves needed to win this game. I do think one of them will make it to Final Tribal Council, but I’m really struggling to see how either of them wins.

  1. Cirie Fields (+275)
  2. Rizo Velovic (+450)
  3. Ozzy Lusth (+500)
  4. Aubry Bracco (+650)
  5. Rick Devens (+900)
  6. Emily Flippen (+1050)
  7. Tiffany Ervin (+1500)
  8. Jonathan Young (+1600)
  9. Joe Hunter (+2000)

Top Five Baby!

“Top five, baby!” The phrase coined by the great Tony Vlachos in “Survivor Cagayan” rings true here and will throughout the season. The five most impactful castaways this episode and moving forward, in my eyes, are as follows:

Cirie Fields

Cirie maintains her top spot here. She navigates the target off Ozzy yet again, as Joe leaks Stephenie and Jonathan’s plan to Cirie and Tiffany. Cirie receives significant and complex personal content this episode, too, as she is seen getting sick at the auction, and then reading a letter from her father. She is so insulated and has yet to be clocked as a threat by anyone but Aubry. This feels like a genuine winner edit for Cirie and I’ve bumped up her odds accordingly.

Rizo Velovic

Rizo sticks in second here, but his odds slightly drop. Rizo did not receive the strategic content in this episode that Ozzy and Cirie did. He still has an idol, and is not seen as threatening. However, I am not as sold on a Rizo win as I was earlier in the merge. Rizo does not have the connections that others on the tribe have, and so I worry he could either get squeezed out later in the merge, lose fire like he did in “Survivor 49” or lose at the end to Ozzy or Cirie. That being said, he still has a strong edit overall and has a chance to win against the right people.

Ozzy Lusth

Ozzy is targeted yet again, and leaks back to Jonathan that he knows he is being targeted! Ozzy starts the mess that Rick elaborates on at tribal, but is not clocked for it. Jonathan mentions that Ozzy is playing a stronger social game than he has before, which is a positive for Ozzy. If he makes it to the end, it will be on the back of his social game and not just his physical game. Ozzy will likely need to use the idol correctly and win a challenge or two to make the end, but he is certainly capable of doing so.

Aubry Bracco

Aubry continues to receive significant strategic content, despite not making a move of her own to upend the power structure. Is it all a mirage? Or will Aubry actually do something that puts her in a position to win the game? Rick getting an idol here helps her out, and she has relationships with Jonathan and Tiff. But she needs one of Ozzy, Rizo or Cirie out soon if she wants a chance to win this game.

Rick Devens

Last week, I said I did not feel confident in Rick’s game. Well, I still am not, but man, is he exciting to watch. His insistence on flipping the coin for a chance at safety, an idol and adding an extra $1,000,000 to the prize pool in exchange for his life in the game was an incredibly fun, calculated risk that everyone but Joe seemed to enjoy. He now has an actual idol and new life in this game. Similar to Aubry, he needs one of Ozzy, Rizo or Cirie out, or at least a few of their advantages flushed to give himself a chance to win.
