“Survivor 50” Episode 8 Recap + Castaway Betting Odds
Episode Recap
Camp Life
The castaways return to camp following the vote out of Dee, and Tiffany exclaims that “She is here in a pit of snakes.” Coach pontificates that he drove the vote, and vengeance was served. Coach’s allies are concerned, specifically Jonathan, who tells Coach to “slow his roll.”
Chrissy views Aubry, Christian and Devens as a “middle group” that needs to go. Ozzy approaches Tiffany for a conversation post-vote and lets her know that he voted for her. He mentions that Coach told him to vote for her, and that he wants Coach out, but cannot vote for him yet.
The morning after tribal, a letter is delivered to camp by boat. The players must divide into six pairs, with one person left out. Rick, Cirie and Chrissy all voice that they would like to be left out. They draw Shot in the Dark’s and Cirie’s is selected! The players then divide into groups of two. The groups are as follows:
- Ozzy and Stephanie
- Emily and Rizo
- Aubry and Rick
- Chrissy and Coach
- Joe and Tiffany
- Christian and Jonathan
Immunity + Reward Challenge
The castaways arrive for the immunity challenge in their pairs, and Jeff announces the twist. Again, he reminds the players and the audience that the fans voted for a twist-heavy season. Jeff announces the Double Duo Twist: Players will compete for immunity as a duo and will be tied to their partner for tonight’s vote.
For the first time in “Survivor” history, the castaways will vote for two players at once and must vote for a pair. Cirie, as the odd player out, gets to head to Exile Island and is immune from the vote.
In the challenge, players are competing for both immunity and reward. Up for grabs as a reward is a meal with spaghetti, wine, bread and tiramisu for dessert for the winning pair. To win immunity, first, the pairs must complete multiple obstacles, ending with a board puzzle. The first three teams to compete this, move on to the ball maze. These teams are: Ozzy and Stephanie, Aubry and Rick and Joe and Tiffany.
In the second leg, Aubry and Devens jump out to an early lead, but it’s Joe and Tiffany that navigate the balls the best through the maze. Joe and Tiffany win immunity and secure a spot in the Final 11.
Exile Island
Cirie arrives at Exile Island, and the island is covered in coconuts. Hidden among 2,000 coconuts is one with a golden phoenix emblem on it. If Cirie can find this coconut in under an hour, she can return to camp immune and participate in tribal. If not? She must spend the night on Exile. Cirie has a history of struggling with challenges on “Survivor,” and she considers giving up multiple times.
However, this version of Cirie perseveres. She overcomes her fears and her perception as a weak competitor, finding the coconut with the golden phoenix.
Pre-Tribal Camp Life

The castaways return to camp, and everyone starts scrambling over the vote… except for Coach. Chrissy instructs him to just chill in the hammock, as she is worried he will do more damage than good. Joe and Tiffany enjoy their spaghetti feast, and Joe admits to voting for her. Still, he sees potential in them working together. Joe wants Rick to go home because they do not get along. Tiffany is open to voting either Rick and Aubry or Chrissy and Coach. She sees Aubry as a “dangerous middle player,” and Chrissy as ‘controlling.’
Ozzy, Emily and Christian discuss the merits of voting for Chrissy and Coach or Rick and Aubry. However, when Cirie returns, they all fold when she sees the chance to take out both Chrissy and Coach, and wants to go for it. When Cirie pitches a Chrissy and Coach vote to Joe, it’s met with a fair amount of resistance. Joe does not trust Rick at all and sees Coach as a loyal shield.
Chrissy formulates an entirely different plan. She sees this as an opportunity to take a shot at Rizo and Emily. Emily is no fan of Coach, and Rizo has an idol that could be flushed. Chrissy makes the mistake of pitching this to Cirie, and Cirie immediately leaks it. This further turns Rizo against Chrissy and Coach.
Tribal Council
Tribal commences, and the first member of the jury, Dee, joins to spectate.
Christian thinks the twist here is more of a final six vote. Joe quotes the infamous Mike Tyson when asked about the twist, stating, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
When asked about idols, Rick mentions that he found a clue. He then makes a run for the fake idol that he and Christian planted at tribal back on the original Cila tribe. Rick grabs the fake idol from behind a rock by the tribal council fire and swiftly returns to his seat. This causes pandemonium at tribal, and many players begin whispering to each other. Stephenie questions Rick about the validity of his idol and asks him to show it to her. He refuses to do so.
Once the chaos settles, the players vote. At the call for advantages, Rick does not play his idol, but Coach plays his Shot in the Dark. It lands on NOT SAFE. The votes are read, and Chrissy and Coach are voted out 10-1-1, with Jonathan voting for Aubry and Rick, and Chrissy voting for Rizo and Emily. When Coach leaves he says it was an honor and a healing experience to play again.
Survivor 50 Castaway Betting Odds

Each week, I’ll rank and pair the remaining “Survivor 50” castaways with betting odds to win the game. These odds are subject to change after each episode. When castaways are eliminated, edits become clearer. As a result, win equities will diverge, and odds will become more favorable to some and less favorable to others.
We have a bit of a shake-up this week, as I’ve bumped both Rizo and Cirie ahead of Christian. Rizo and Cirie, along with Ozzy, are seen as the primary decision makers for this vote. Especially Cirie, she has the most influence of anyone on the Manulevu beach, yet has not been clocked for it. I see those three as the driving force behind the strategy for this season, until proven otherwise.
That trio has two idols and an extra vote. In addition, Christian has been described as “quite threatening,” so I am struggling to see a clear path to the end for him at this point.
Tiffany gets a much-deserved bump up. I think others view her as a free agent of sorts with both Kamilla and Dee gone, as she is seen strategizing with Joe, Ozzy, and Coach this episode. Finally, I have Joe last. He just does not have agency in this game, even though he is viewed as a loyal player.
- Rizo Velovic (+400)
- Cirie Fields (+450)
- Christian Hubicki (+550)
- Ozzy Lusth (+750)
- Emily Flippen (+1000)
- Rick Devens (+1100)
- Aubry Bracco (+1150)
- Jonathan Young (+1400)
- Stephenie LaGrossa-Kendrick (+1700)
- Tiffany Ervin (+2000)
- Joe Hunter (+2400)
Top Five Baby!

“Top five, baby!” The phrase coined by the great Tony Vlachos in “Survivor Cagayan” rings true here and will throughout the season. The five most impactful castaways this episode and moving forward, in my eyes, are as follows:
Rizo Velovic
R-I-Z G-O-D baby, welcome to the top spot! Despite having what is now likely a public idol, no one is targeting this man. His duo with Cirie is somewhat concealed. He is also not viewed as threatening compared to players like Rick or Christian, and he is awful at challenges, so he will never be seen as a challenge threat.
More importantly, the narrative recently runs through the trio of Rizo, Cirie and Ozzy. This feels like a potential winner’s edit for Rizo compared to the edit he received in “Survivor 49,” which was more of a personal and growth narrative. His narrative here is much more strategic.
Cirie Fields
It was a fantastic episode for Cirie. Her Shot in the Dark is drawn, and she “wins” a trip to Exile Island and is immune from the vote. Cirie makes the most of her trip to Exile. For someone who has struggled with the challenges throughout her “Survivor” career, this is a defining moment for Cirie, and the editors paint it as so.
Could this be indicative of Cirie finally getting over the hump and winning “Survivor”? It’s certainly possible. I believe she is currently playing the best game of anyone on the island; she has all the information. The only doubt is if anyone is willing to actually take her to the end.
Christian Hubicki
Christian drops to my third spot here. He still has a chance, and I like his shot to win more than Emily’s or Rick’s. However, his threat level has increased. He’s viewed as a strategist, a middle player, and I anticipate his name will keep coming up. I believe he is disposable to everyone in the game but Aubry and Rick and maybe Emily. If he somehow makes Final Tribal, I think he wins, but the question for him is getting there. With Coach and Chrissy leaving, this could give him a few different avenues, but his target is growing.
Ozzy Lusth
Ozzy continues to slip through and is in a great spot. He does not win immunity here, and if he did win, I think people would start viewing him as a challenge threat. He’s in the Final 11 with an idol and connections across the board. He has connections to Joe and Jonathan that players like Rizo and Cirie do not have.
The question is, does he have enough agency to keep players like that in the game? I am not certain, and I am worried that he is strategically outflanked by the other members of his duo.
Emily Flippen
Emily continues to coast, and her mistakes never come back to bite her. She gets Coach out here, finally, and I’m uncertain who her next target is. She struggles with the challenges; she’s leaky, albeit strategically. Emily is not connected to Joe or Jonathan, so she is fairly reliant on Ozzy, Christian and Rick. If Christian or Rick goes home soon, I don’t see how Emily has much agency going forward. However, I do anticipate her making the endgame here.
