“Survivor 50” Episode 11 Recap + Castaway Betting Odds

Episode Recap

Camp Life

The remaining nine castaways return to camp, and the mood is fun and energetic. Rick survives and increases the prize pool by $1 million. Everyone is ecstatic except for Joe, whose attitude and behavior rub others the wrong way. Cirie thinks Joe is hypocritical, and Tiffany is tired of talking. Aubry and Rick describe themselves as “devious cockroaches that won’t go away.” Rick opens the immunity idol he received for his successful coin flip, and it can be used until there are seven players remaining.

Idols are the main topic of conversation on the beach, as Tiffany is worried that Ozzy and Rizo both have idols. Cirie does not want to be “forced out” of the game like she was in “Survivor: Game Changers” when every other player was immune at the Final Six. Rick is planning to play his idol this tribal and wants to make a big move with it to take out someone like Joe or Cirie.

Immunity Challenge

"Survivor 50" Episode 11 Recap + Castaway Betting Odds

At the immunity challenge, players must balance on a triangular platform in the water. Every five minutes, they will move up to a smaller foot perch. The last player standing wins immunity, as well as an advantage for a twist at tribal tonight.

Cirie drops out of the challenge first, followed by Rick. The other castaways all reach the final round, which is a live transition to balancing on one foot. Tiffany manages the transition the best, outlasting everyone else and winning immunity. But wait… Jeff needs to review the tapes! He returns after a few minutes and states that Tiffany did not make the transition in time. Therefore, Jonathan wins immunity!

Jonathan earns an advantage with his immunity win. The remaining eight castaways are divided into two groups of four, and Jonathan will attend tribal and vote with both groups.

The groups are as follows:

  • Group A: Cirie, Emily, Rick and Tiffany
  • Group B: Aubry, Joe, Ozzy and Rizo

Pre-Tribal Camp Life

"Survivor 50" Episode 11 Recap + Castaway Betting Odds

Jonathan arrives at the beach with Group A, and Cirie pulls him aside for a chat. They both agree that Rick needs to go, but are worried about the idol. Cirie tells Jonathan about her extra vote, and that Cirie Jonathan and Tiffany could split the vote on Emily and Rick.

Emily and Rick concoct a plan to try to get both of them through the vote. She tells Jonathan, Tiffany and Cirie that Rick wants to make a big move, and is considering playing the idol on her. Rick will use the idol on himself, but if Rick and Emily can convince Jonathan, Tiffany and Cirie to vote for Rick, then Emily and Rick can take out Cirie. Emily then doubles down on the plan and tells Cirie that Rick thinks Emily is getting the votes.

Over at Group B, Ozzy pulls Aubry aside. He lays out his entire game plan to her and tells her that he won an extra vote at the Fight for Supplies and gave it to Cirie. He then admits that he is going to vote for her. Aubry leverages this information and tells Rizo that Ozzy is locked in with Cirie, and Rizo is not in his plans. Jonathan is very open to taking out Ozzy, but Joe is not entirely convinced. Rizo sees this as an opportunity to pull Cirie closer, because if Ozzy is Cirie’s true No. 1 ally, that leaves Rizo on the outs. Removing Ozzy and his idol from the game can improve Rizo’s position.

Tribal Council Group A

Group A arrives at tribal, and Jeff’s questions commence. Jonathan and Rick agree that they do not get along, but Rick has hope that they can work together in the future if needed. The players vote, and Rick plays his idol on himself. The vote is two for Rick, two for Emily and two for Cirie. Cirie played her extra vote here to tie it up.

The players revote, and Emily goes home, 4-2. She thanks Rick for sticking with her on the revote even when she knew she was gone. Emily’s gameplay was erratic, but she was incredible to watch this season. I have no regrets picking her to win this season, and hope she gets to play “Survivor” again.

Tribal Council Group B

Group B begins tribal, and sees that Emily is now part of the jury. The mood is tense, and Joe is “trying to make the best decision with what’s in front of him.” Aubry says that “Survivor” is about keeping doors open, and that embers can ignite a flame. Ozzy admits to not being good at “Survivor” in the past, and is playing differently this time around. He wants to share the joy of the game with everyone.

The castaways vote, and at the call for advantages, Ozzy looks toward Joe and Rizo to see if he should play his idol. Both of them give off very little, and Ozzy decides to pocket it. Ozzy is blindsided 4-1 in painful fashion. His reaction says it all. Jonathan tells him on the way out that he had no chance against him, while Rizo says, “You said too much, bro.” Ozzy was able to play a better game this time around, but he fell victim to another blindside with an idol in his pocket.

Survivor 50 Castaway Betting Odds

"Survivor 50" Episode 11 Recap + Castaway Betting Odds

Each week, I’ll rank and pair the remaining “Survivor 50” castaways with betting odds to win the game. These odds are subject to change after each episode. When castaways are eliminated, edits become clearer. As a result, win equities will diverge, and odds will become more favorable to some and less favorable to others.

Cirie maintains the top spot, but Aubry closes the gap significantly. Aubry wanted to make a big move for a while, and finally executed it here. The edit is telling us that one of Cirie or Aubry is winning this game, and the more time goes by, the more I can see Aubry winning in underdog fashion.

Rick moves up with his successful idol play. With Ozzy out of the game, Rick could be seen as a potential number to people like Rizo. I do fear he is out next, as Joe, Jonathan and Cirie would vote him out in an instant. But if he makes it through the next vote, I think he can find a way to win.

Joe stays on the bottom for me; he is clearly getting a third-place edit.

  1. Cirie Fields (+250)
  2. Aubry Bracco (+350)
  3. Rizo Velovic (+400)
  4. Rick Devens (+550)
  5. Jonathan Young (+900)
  6. Tiffany Ervin (+1200)
  7. Joe Hunter (+1500)

Top Five Baby!

“Top five, baby!” The phrase coined by the great Tony Vlachos in “Survivor Cagayan” rings true here and will throughout the season. The five most impactful castaways this episode and moving forward, in my eyes, are as follows:

Cirie Fields

Cirie keeps the top spot, expertly playing her Extra Vote to avoid any idol shenanigans. If Rizo, Tiffany or Joe is willing to go to the end with her, she can win this game. Losing Ozzy hurts, but Cirie is well-connected enough that she can continue to run the game. Plus, two of the three remaining idols are now out of the game.

Aubry Bracco

Aubry skyrockets up the board following a big move that she can claim she executed. Ozzy loaded the gun for her, which certainly helped, but she hit the target. She’s in a good position in this game; Aubry isn’t as threatening as Rick or Cirie, she isn’t a challenge beast and I don’t think anyone is looking to vote her out.

Rizo Velovic

Rizo drops to third here. Ozzy being voted out is good for his game, and he still has an idol. Still, the edit doesn’t feel like his story. I will need to see more strategy from him in the upcoming episodes to improve his chances of winning.

Rick Devens

Rick moves into my fourth spot here. He saves himself with his idol but loses his closest ally, Emily. I worry Rick could be out next, but he’s played a stronger game than those with longer odds than him. If he makes it to the Final Tribal Council, he will have a great shot to win this game. Making it there may prove difficult, though.

Jonathan Young

Welcome to the top five, Jonathan! He wins a crucial immunity and makes a move to take out Ozzy, who’s a huge threat in both challenges and to win the game. He also helps flush Rick’s idol and takes out Emily, with whom he wasn’t aligned. I don’t think Jonathan has a good shot at winning this game. If he wants to win, it has to be against Joe and Tiffany in my eyes. But I do think he has a good chance to make it to the finale.
