Oh, what a time it is! We hit the peak of football season when we get into double-digit weeks. These get a bit more important week-by-week now due to how close we are to fantasy football playoffs. So, let’s prepare for our postseason run!
Before we do, I always recap last week’s “Shore Thing Sleepers.” I must’ve taken a witch’s brew because it was a remedy, getting over a rough patch where I was not scoring over projection. We scored 4.2 points over projection! Shoutout to Trevor Lawrence and Cedric Tillman, scoring four or more points over their projection! Then, the running backs did their thing. While they combined for a point under projection, can you complain when Austin Ekeler put up 17.3 points and Raheem Mostert put up 8.8? Tim Patrick in the rain and Isaiah Likely getting injured were whiffs, but you can’t always hit them all!
What will Week 10’s “Shore Thing Sleepers” bring us? Here are some deep bench players to consider for your starting lineups!
Fantasy Football Start/Sit Consideration: Week 10 Sleepers
Quarterback
Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears)
Maybe Caleb Williams is sleeping in after his bye week? That’s a rookie mistake because two straight games of single-digit fantasy points are not pleasing to the eye. It’s about time for the first-overall pick to wake up, and I think you can take advantage of this slept-on matchup!
Since returning from the London game against the Jaguars, the Patriots have allowed multiple quarterbacks to have over 233 passing yards, multiple touchdowns and 17.3+ fantasy points. Those two quarterbacks? Aaron Rodgers, currently QB13 for the season, and Mason Rudolph, QB14 since Week 7.
The USC product pick has gone for over 226 or more passing yards in three of his last seven games! Those three games were his top-three fantasy point performances this season. When he hits the 226-passing yard quota, Williams averages 2.6 touchdowns, an interception and 24.1 fantasy points, with a floor of 19.3 points per game. Look for him if your signal called is banged up or on bye.
Running Back
Raheem Mostert (Miami Dolphins)
When Tua Tagovailoa returned, we thought it would be the passing game that would be elevated. Boy, have we been proven wrong! The running game is getting the job done in Tagovailoa’s return, much thanks to the combination of De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert.
I almost chose Jaylen Wright due to Mostert’s fumbling issues (two in the five games played). However, it looks like Miami still trusts him. Let’s look at the positives. In the last three games where he and Achane have been healthy, Mostert has had nine-plus carries, 30+ scrimmage yards and an average of 9.3 Points Per Reception (PPR) fantasy points.
It looks bleak when considering stats for the RB2s against this week’s matchup, the Los Angeles Rams. There are four straight games with under 5.5 fantasy points; that doesn’t cut it. The issue is that they aren’t getting very opportunities, where Mostert is. Also, the Rams have still allowed a team’s RB2 to have seven-plus carries in three games this season. They average 45.3 scrimmage yards, 0.6 touchdowns and 9.2 fantasy points in those games. Doesn’t that sound similar?
He didn’t get the nickname “Raheem MustStart” for a reason. He treated us well last week, so why not make it three straight games and two straight for the “Shore Thing Sleepers” namesake?
Samaje Perine (Kansas City Chiefs)
Welcome back, ol’ friend! Samaje Perine has been a regular in these articles this season, with now two straight games of five-plus fantasy performances. If you haven’t introduced yourself to Perine yet, I am more than willing to introduce him!
The Oklahoma product was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and after bouncing from Washington to Cincinnati to Denver, he’s now in Kansas City. He had a small role when Isiah Pacheco got hurt and Kareem Hunt was knocking off the rust from being a free agent, and Then faded for a nit. He’s since returned to finding a role in this offense due to injuries.
In these past two games, the Chiefs have been with DeAndre Hopkins and without JuJu Smith-Schuster. Due to that, he’s seen seven targets for 55 receiving yards and a touchdown in those games. Their Week 10 matchup, the Broncos, has been struggling in that area recently. Denver has allowed the third-most receiving yards to running backs in the last five weeks!
These just aren’t your ordinary starting running backs easier. Here’s the list of the running backs with over 38 receiving yards and scored over 8.8 fantasy points in the last four games: Kimani Vidal with 40 yards and 13.1 fantasy, Miles Sanders with 38 yards and 11.5 points Justice Hill with 43 yards and 8.8 points.
Isn’t it convenient that Perine has 25+ receiving yards and five-plus fantasy points in the last two games to exploit this matchup?
Wide Receiver
Rome Odunze (Chicago Bears)
I believe the saying goes, “All throws lead to Rome.” If that’s not how it goes, we need to change it because Rome Odunze has been the top fantasy WR for the Bears during this two-game slump. Despite not being the most-targeted receiver in any of those games, he has the most receptions and receiving yards in both!
This matchup caught my eye because there was a trending video where D.J. Moore gave up on a play while it was still going on last week. Some argue he was injured, and others speculate he was giving himself up after stepping out of bounds to avoid illegal touching. Still, the last time a Bear was doing something similar in the middle of a game? He also got benched the next game. Now, I don’t think Moore will be benched outright, but does he see fewer snaps, or am I just overthinking that? Then, you have Keenan Allen, who has not scored an NFL touchdown in the U.S. since Nov. 19, 2023. That’s almost a whole year!
Setting speculation and vibes aside, the stats help my case here, too. The Patriots have allowed a receiver duo to score 9.4+ fantasy points in three of their last four games. Just like Odunze has been the highest-scoring player without having the most targets, in two of those three games against New England, the receiver with fewer targets also scored the most fantasy points!
If you include the second-highest targeted receiver in those last four games against the Patriots, they are averaging four receptions for 51.2 yards, 0.5 touchdowns and 12.1 fantasy points. Three of those four receivers have had 50+ receiving yards.
If all throws can’t lead to Rome, I’ll be happy with having the lead in my matchup due to Rome.
Demarcus Robinson (Los Angeles Rams)
Demarcus Robinson has gone back-to-back games with two touchdowns and 17.5+ fantasy points. Yet, it’s almost been like nobody’s talked about it. In the three games with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, he is averaging four receptions on 6.3 targets, 57 yards, 1.3 touchdowns and 17.7 fantasy points. That’s the second-highest of the trio’s average! Granted, that’s because Nacua either left early due to injury or got ejected for throwing a punch.
Onto the matchup, the Dolphins, who are allowing the third-fewest fantasy points to WRs this season. That seems scary, but all you have to do is look closer at the last two games. The Dolphins have allowed four receivers to score over 11+ fantasy points in that span. In addition, three of those four wide receivers also scored a touchdown! Those receivers all saw five or more targets.
Three of Robinson’s four 8.2+ fantasy point performances this season came with games where Kupp and Nacua started. He also had a 17.5-point performance when Kupp and Nacua played the whole game. I think we have yet another connection to talk about in Los Angeles.
Tight End
Chigoziem Okonkwo (Tennessee Titans)
Let me get my conductor’s hat on because we are about to hop aboard the hype train! In his last three games, Chigoziem Okonkwo has averaged three receptions for 34 yards and 6.4 fantasy points. That includes a 5.1-point average in the two games since trading Hopkins to the Chiefs. That can also be attributed to Mason Rudolph being the starting quarterback. On two of Rudolph’s three starts, Okonkwo has 38+ receiving yards.
The Chargers have allowed a tight end to score 7.8 fantasy points in their last three games. All of those tight ends have seen 29+ receiving yards. Honestly, it’s quite the perfect matchup. The Titans’ tight end room has the eighth-most receiving yards in the last three weeks. Compare that to the Chargers, who have allowed the 10th-most receiving yards to the tight end position in the last three weeks, and it’s the perfect setup.
All aboard the hype train, “Chigo, Chigo, Choo Choo!”
