If You’re a Contender, What Would You Trade for Alvin Kamara in a Dynasty Fantasy Football League? – @TexasTrojan2004

Context: There are two trade offers on the board in this 12-team dynasty superflex league:

  1. J.J. McCarthy for Alvin Kamara straight up
  2. A late-2025 first-round pick and second-round pick (would also get Dontayvion Wicks back)

Oye. Dynasty fantasy football leagues differ from your redrafts as they focus more on the long run, going into the next season and beyond. That said, bring on the trade talks.

Our Dynasty Trade Value chart for Superflex leagues makes it easy to track and compare trade asset values. Bookmark it if you have future dynasty trade questions.

Before we break down each scenario, make sure you understand what you plan to do for your team, especially if it’s a long-term dynasty superflex league. Roster builds matter, too, but the value is more important regardless of whether you’re competitive.

J.J. McCarthy’s Potential & Value

A J.J. McCarthy for Alvin Kamara Dynasty trade is defined as unbalanced. The Minnesota Vikings moved up one spot to No. 10 to select the Michigan product. However, his rookie season ended early due to a knee injury in his lone preseason game.

Minnesota has a good problem to have (not including this year) at QB, but the season is still early. Sam Darnold looks like an MVP candidate and has them in a similar quarterback situation to that in Atlanta. The difference? Kirk Cousins is 36-years-old, while Darnold is only 27. His future with the Vikings is still unknown; he is on a contract year and would assumingly re-sign if he finishes 11-6 or better with a playoff appearance.

Anytime you have an offensive player in Kevin O’Connell‘s offense, you know they’ll have some value. Coaching matters, y’all! Even if I’m a contender, I’m leery about sending McCarthy off without seeing the upside for myself.

Picks & Wicks Season?

The second offer is receiving Dontayvion Wicks and Kamara for a 2025 late first-round and second-round pick. On paper, Wicks has not been the ideal fantasy football wide receiver. Last season, he finished with 581 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie. In three games this season, he has three catches for 26 yards and one touchdown. Jordan Love‘s injury minimizes Green Bay Packers wide receivers’ value overall, but Jayden Reed is presumably the top target thus far (team-high 21% target share).

The bigger aspect of this trade offer falls on the picks. Personally, I am a picks girl. I love keeping my picks, but I am open to trading them if the price is right. I learned this about myself in some of my dynasty fantasy football leagues and even in NBA general manager practice projects (shout out to Get in the Game 101 – not a sponsor).

Given that @TexasTrojan is a contender, he would have to evaluate their roster and see if it’s worth departing picks to go all-in this season.

The Verdict on Alvin Kamara’s Dynasty Value

According to the trade value chart, Kamara’s value alone is 100. A late first-round pick and a late second-round pick’s value combined is 225. J.J. McCarthy’s value is 195. Either way, you’re still overpaying for an eight-year veteran running back who will be 30 before next season. If you don’t win your championship this season after trading for Kamara, there’s a good chance you have buyer’s remorse next rookie draft season or when McCarthy finally takes the field.

Players closer to Alvin Kamara’s dynasty value that I would move for him if trying to win-now include Ladd McConkey (115), Ricky Pearsall (110), Dallas Goedert (100) and Aaron Rodgers (100).

If I were rebuilding and had Kamara, I would take either of these offers and run. Any first-round pick in a superflex league is a great return on investment.
