Butterfield Bermuda Championship 2023 Betting Picks

Lucas Glover (+2000)

I’m going back to Lucas Glover this week at the Port Royal Golf Course in Bermuda. We liked him last week at El Cardonal at Diamante, which required more distance than accuracy. This week will be the opposite, focussing on more positioning and approach game. Glover is No. 1 in this field for shots gained total and overall ball striking. What he lacks in distance, he has made up for with accuracy and consistency. He is also a player who can handle wind, and there will be plenty of it this week. I love Glover in this abysmal field.

Doug Ghim (+2000)

Fresh off a 15th-place finish at the Worldwide Technology Championship, Doug Ghim is trending in the right direction. It’s hard to ignore Ghim’s form over the last 36 rounds. He has been excellent tee-to-green, rating out just slightly better than Glover in that metric. His approach is in the top five, where he is averaging 2.5 strokes gained week-on-week, stemming back to July. We just need him to have a flat week with his putter and he is live to win this tournament handily. Ghim is a player much like Glover, who is a class above this field and should not be overlooked at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

Mark Hubbard (+3000)

Mark Hubbard is a guilty pleasure of mine, so it feels nice to be laying money on him for good reason. He rates out No. 2 in this field in shots-gained approach. He is excellent and accurate off the tee, as well. Hubbard can play in the wind, which will be important. In fact, the windier, the better as far as he is concerned. We always like Hubbard to pop up in these lesser-field events. If there is any pause with him, it’s his putter. Still, I feel that these greens are really straightforward, which should help him find his groove here.

Chase Johnson (+50000)

Chase Johnson is someone I think we need to have on the radar. Admittedly, a lot would need to come together for him to win this week, but at 500/1, he is someone who could rise up in this field. Unlike the rest of my pool, he is a bomber, but he’s a bomber who hits fairways at a 72% clip. He also hits greens in regulation around a 71% rate. So there is definitely something here. He is accurate and won’t pop up for a lot of people because we just don’t have a lot of data and stats to back him, based on four starts. I love him as a buy-early candidate at Port Royal Golf Course. He is someone who could make some noise here!
