Fortinet Championship Betting Picks (Outrights)

Max Homa (+750)

It’s truly tough to find a reason for Max Homa to not be the favorite here. He has won here twice back to back and has been playing excellent golf as of late with three T10s during the FedEx Playoff run. He was starting to round back into form, and he is definitely a player who gets hot and stays hot.

Homa is one of the most consistent ball strikers on Tour with an approach game that can be scary accurate from some of the shorter ranges, rating out 10th from 125 yards and in. He is adequate in the distance off the tee department, and he makes up for it by being more accurate than most of the golfers at the top of this board. He had an excellent putter. rating out seventh on Tour last season for strokes gained putting.

The only negative that you may hear is that he and Justin Thomas may be using this as a bit of a tune-up for the Ryder Cup. I see the argument not to bet Thomas for that reason, but with Homa, there isn’t really anything to tune up. He is ready to go, and I think we may see him snag his third win at the Fortinet Championship.

Cam Davis (+1800)

Cam Davis gives me fits. Silverado Resort and Spa seems like a place that he should be able to compete at, though. Deemphasizing accuracy and focusing more on a bomb and gauge narrative pushes Davis to the top of my modeling. The need to hit the fairway off the tee at the Fortinet Championship is somewhat mitigated by the less-than-penalizing rough. He has the distance to put himself firmly in the short iron and wedge distance on the majority of holes here. Davis is another player that can get very hot with the wedges, and that is truly what we need here.

He also rates out sixth from the 225-yard range, which makes him an asset on the four par-5s players will see at the Fortinet Championship. The par-5s play as four of the easiest holes, so I like a player that rates out so well from the longer approach distances through the last season.

Eric Cole (+3000)

It shouldn’t come as a shock that I’m betting Eric Cole again this week. He continues to have great value at his number. +3000 does not seem right for a player who has been consistently making cuts and competing for a solid 12 months now. The one thing that has held him back is his accuracy off the tee, and we have already discussed why that shouldn’t hold anyone back at Silverado. Cole’s distance is more kin to Homa’s distance, but Cole makes up for his distance by being incredibly well-rounded on approach and putting.

He puts himself in position to score more often than 98% of this field. He rates out No. 5 from 250+ yards and No. 11 from 125-150 yards on approach, which should be the two key distances for him at the Fortinet Championship. This sets up so incredibly well for him. If Homa can win here back to back and Cole is better on approach and better with the flat stick, doesn’t it make sense to bet him? It does, and you should!

Akshay Bhatia (+4000)

Akshay Bhatia is a player that, historically, we have called out for being a little wild from time to time, but that has not been the case as of late. He has been dialed in off the tee and on approach and has great distance to complement that. What holds him back regularly tends to be his putter. He has struggled to find a consistent rhythm, and I don’t necessarily see that changing this week. It matters less here, but he will still need to make a few to see him win the Fortinet Championship. He bombs the ball and sticks approach shots. He scores well on par-5s and can make birdies in bunches when the irons get hot. As I said, we just need him to put it all together on a course that is set up for him.
