Between Bets: RBC Canadian Open 2023 (Outrights)

  • Justin Rose (+1800)
  • Adam Hadwin (+4500)
  • Akshay Bhatia (+10000)
  • Jake Knapp (+30000)

Justin Rose (+1800)

Justin Rose has been chugging right along, looking like the Rose of old, playing and competing with tough competition at even tougher courses over the last month. He’s a former No.1 player in the world, and he looks like it. As far as stats go over the last 24 rounds, it’s really hard to find anything Rose isn’t in the top 10 for. He is crushing all aspects of the approach game, which is going to be very critical here. His off-the-tee game has been steady and accurate, and his putter has been on fire, rating fourth overall on Bentgrass greens, like we will see this week. I see no reason that Rose can’t be making a run at winning this week. He’s an easy add at his current RBC Canadian Open odds.

Adam Hadwin (+4500)

Oh, Canada! There are quite a few Canadians that people are lining up to play, and Adam Hadwin is not the one people are excited about. People should be, though, because he has a very similar approach game to everyone’s favorite Canadian Corey Conners, without the liability of an abysmal putter and all-around short game. Hadwin can get absolutely nuclear with approach and putting. He hasn’t had a standout performance this year, but I have a feeling that changes this week at home in his native land. He’s shorter off the tee than I’d like, but he is accurate, and he avoids big numbers. Catch a little fire on his approach, and he could easily be the top up north here at the RBC Canadian Open.

Akshay Bhatia (+10000)

Akshay Bhatia… I beg you, please just play four solid rounds this week. Bhatia has been playing so well, except for one round every week. That round tends to be on the weekend, and it has been fueled by bad putting and wayward tee shots. In general, he has been playing great golf, overshadowed by one blow-up per week. Akshay does seem to rise to the top at birdie fests with lower-talented fields, so this may just be the tournament he needs to find his confidence and get a win. He is long and accurate off the tee, accurate from almost any distance on approach, makes a ton of birdies when he gets rolling and balances that avoiding bogeys with the best of them. I like the wider receptive fairways and the shorter approach shots that Bhatia’s off-the-tee game will afford him this week.

Jake Knapp (+30000)

I always have to give you the longest viable shot I can find. Jake Knapp is the play this week at his current RBC Canadian Open odds. He has been a consistent performer on the Korn Ferry Tour, missing only one cut all season with four top-10 finishes along the way. During that stretch, he is first in par-5 scoring, first in birdie-or-better rate and 12th in driving metrics. In addition, he has a 62% fairways-in-regulation rate at 307 yards on average and has a solid approach game to match at 70% greens in regulation. This is a misprice by the books, in my opinion. This is a solid player that deserves to have a few shots taken on him.
