Sanderson Farms Championship 2023 Betting Picks (Outrights)
Stephan Jaeger (+1600)
Stephan Jaeger is a player that I have been betting off and on for the last few months, and his finishes have been kind of lackluster for the form he has had. He hasn’t missed a cut since April at the RBC Heritage, but he also has only cracked the T10 once during the same run. The two things I love about Jaeger this week are his driving skills and his birdie-or-better rate. He averages 307 yards with his driver, and he rates out No.6 in this field when it comes to making birdies. The Country Club of Jackson will be a birdie fest, so I am stacking my card with golfers that make them in bunches. The average final score at the Sanderson Farms Championship has been right around -20, and Jaeger absolutely has the ability to go low. It definitely helps that this is probably the weakest field he will see all year.
Eric Cole (+2000)
Stop me if you’ve heard this before. We love Eric Cole at In Between Media (IBT), and there is no way we aren’t going to bet him here against this field. +2000 seems way too long for how good Cole has been week-in and week-out. Regardless of how strong the field is, Cole continues to be in the mix week after week. He is not the longest hitter, matter of fact he’s a short hitter, but he is elite with his irons and he is the best putter in this field by far. Cole is No.1 in birdide-or-better rate as well, so what I’m giving up off the tee I’m gaining massively with his approach and short stick. Cole is my favorite bet this week for the Sanderson Farms Championship and I’m not going to be alone. I’d RUN to the betting window and get a slip before this number moves.
Dylan Wu (+5500)
Dylan Wu is another IBT Family favorite, and much like Cole, he is keeping his name in the mix constantly against much better fields. He is the same type of player as Cole – Steadfast but short off the tee with an excellent iron game and an almost infallible putter. Wu is the more volatile player in this comparison, and he is live to miss a cut here and there, which is reflected by his much longer odd. However, all and all, they are very similar players, and I find myself betting on both of them, especially when they are clearly a cut above the field.
Chez Reavie (+8000)
Chez Reavie is a deadly approach player when he’s hot. Reavie is someone who tends to show up and compete when the big names aren’t around. The biggest issue I see with him is his putter is unpredictably streaky. He had a run for four months mid-season, gaining 3.25 strokes per tournament with his putter. Flash forward to the last three months of the season, and he did not gain a full stroke in any event he played. Those are the swings with Reavie.
His approach game is always steady. He sticks the ball close and gets more looks at birdie than 95% of this field. He doesn’t always convert them, but at +8000 you are betting him for the upside he has if he brings his putter this week. Sanderson Farms Championship will require a score in excess of -20. Reavie is one of the golfers at longer odds who can absolutely make birdies and keep up. He has won on Tour before, and he will again.
