RSM Classic 2023 Betting Picks

Russell Henley (+1400)

I can’t find a solid reason not to bet Russell Henley this week. He ended the regular season in excellent form and fits these courses like a glove. In his last four starts, he finished no worse than 14th and had three T10s, with his best finish being second at the Wyndham Championship. Henley has the best metrics around approach over the last 36 rounds of anyone in this field, and he is also an excellent wind player. The wind may factor in here, but unlike last week, if it doesn’t wreak havoc on these golfers, I still love Henley.

The only category he hasn’t gained massively in over the last 36 rounds is off the tee – partly because of his length and partly due to the level of courses he finished up his season on. At an accuracy-fueled, less-than-driver course once again, Henley’s value is increased. I would grab the +1400 to win the RSM Classic before it moves!

Brian Harman (+1800)

Brian Harman had an excellent year. He had a great finish to the season, not missing a cut, dating all the way back to June. In his last eight starts, he has four T10s, one of which was his win at The Open. Whenever I hear accuracy, approach and strong putting, I think of Harman. He is also another player who can play better if the weather comes into play. Harman lives here and is a Georgia boy, so this is a course and climate he knows all too well. Since he was the runner-up here last year, I like him to make a run at winning this week. He is definitely in a different class than some players in this field.

J.T. Poston (+3000)

J.T. Poston is a player I struggle to get right, but I will definitely not miss a perfect opportunity for him to win at the RSM Classic. Over the last 36 rounds, Poston has been excellent on approach. His putter has also come along for the ride, gaining more than five strokes on average per week, dating back to the beginning of the summer. It is undeniable that he has the skill set to win this week. This may very well turn into a putting contest, so I’m going to ride the hot hand with Poston!

Ryan Moore (+10000)

I was on Ryan Moore last week, and he did everything in his power to give the tournament back over the weekend. Am I a glutton for punishment? Maybe… but it is hard to ignore his resurgence in the wraparound season. These shorter courses that require accuracy are where Moore can compete, and he has been. The putter is the part of his game that lets him down, but when I looked at his proximity metrics, specifically the opportunities gained metric, it explains how he has been staying in the hunt. He is hitting it close, which mitigates some of the risk with the flat stick. Coming off a fifth-place finish last week, 100/1 is just too long for him. Let’s go back to the well one more time on Moore this week!
