Does Scottie Scheffler Go Back-to-Back? | RBC Heritage 2025 Picks

by Conor Coughlin

The Masters was undeniably amazing. The leaderboard was stacked, the play was back-and-forth and drama-filled and most importantly, Rory McIlroy completed the career grand slam. The Masters had eluded McIlroy for 11 years. In my life, I have never seen more grown men crying tears of joy over a sporting event. I have been waiting for that moment for a large portion of my adult life, and I was one of those reduced to tears on Sunday evening.

We could discuss The Masters all day, but we have a tournament to cover this week. We are headed to Hilton Head, S.C., for the RBC Heritage. This weekend, there is a great field, and though I enjoy watching this course, it is not difficult to figure out.

Harbour Town Golf Links requires you to be accurate and hit solid approach shots. This tournament can become a putting contest, so we want to find golfers who putt well enough not to lose strokes. The weather can shift on a dime here. As of publication, the wind looks to be in the 15-20 mph range throughout the tournament. Keep an eye on it, though, it can get brutal with the coastal winds.

Does Scottie Scheffler Go Back-to-Back? | RBC Heritage 2025 Picks

Course Layout

The RBC Heritage is located at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The course is a par-71, with 7,213 yards full of Bermuda fairways and greens.

Course Strategy

This is a second-shot course to the max. There are a lot of forced angles and overhanging trees. Distance is relatively unimportant here. The average off-the-tee distance is substantially lower at Harbour Town. The greens are smaller than average and are susceptible to ocean winds, so the around-the-green game makes it overall important here. This really tends to be a putting contest. The odds are in your favor if you are accurate and can putt.

Players To Target for the RBC Heritage 2025:

Scottie Scheffler (+350) | ($13,100)

I don’t normally jump at short odds, but I’m making an exception with Scottie Scheffler this week. The 28-year-old is the defending champion of this tournament and has navigated this course very well. The odds are staying short on him despite relatively pedestrian play up to this point this season. That statement is incredibly relative, given that Scheffler’s pedestrian level is finishing T5 every time he plays.

The win column is calling his name, and I think it’s likely to be this week. He has the history here and has the flat stick under control coming in. Scheffler is elite, and we will likely be reminded of how elite he is this week.

Corey Conners (+2200) | ($9,800)

Corey Conners is coming off what likely could have, possibly should have, been a win at The Masters. His game was firing on all cylinders for most of the week. His approach game at Augusta was on a level above the majority of the field. In the end, his putter and around-the-green game faltered a bit. There are no standout performances at Harbour Town for Conners, but he has more experience at this course than most of the field.

I’m playing experience matched with form in betting him. The putter scares me, but his around-the-green game has been excellent, and his approach game over the last 24 rounds has been extremely accurate. I love Scheffler here, but if anyone were to upset the defending champion, Corey Conners could be a prime candidate.

Jacob Bridgeman (+10000) | ($6,700)

I don’t often reference simulators, but the simulator thinks highly of Jacob Bridgeman here. He’s the fifth-most likely player to win in this field. Do I put stock in a simulator? Not always, but under these circumstances, it turned me onto Bridgeman more than I would have been. He is a player who can be absolutely elite throughout the whole bag. He’s also an excellent putter to boot.

Bridgeman rates out 15th in this field for birdie-or-better rate, and it’s no surprise given his short game. Not just the putter; his wedge game is excellent as well. He doesn’t miss a lot of greens, but when he does, he gets up and down better than 90% of this field. S

peaking of the field, it’s elite. Bridgeman is relatively unknown in this sea of superstars, but he is the real deal and can absolutely pop off here. He’s been close a few times this season, finishing in second place at the Cognizant Classic and third at the Valspar Championship, showing he can get in the ring and box. This number would be way shorter in any other field. Get the value!

Other Outrights to Consider:

  • Justin Thomas (+1800):  This number is moving fast. Justin Thomas has been having a great season, and his Achilles’ heel has been the driver. We will see him using his driver less often this week, and it may be the key to winning this tournament.
  • Patrick Cantlay (+1800):  This number has moved substantially in the past 24 hours. Patrick Cantlay has been very quiet. Harbour Town has been very good to him with a T-3, third and second-place finish over his last three starts here.
  • Denny McCarthy (+5500):  Is a solid approach and elite putting needed? Yes. Do we need to say anything else to warrant betting on Denny McCarthy?
  • Ryan Gerard (+12000):  Ryan Gerard is on fire this year. He finished ninth at the Texas Children’s Houston Open and second at the Valero Texas Open. He has an elite iron game, and his putter has been red hot.
  • Karl Vilips (+25000):  Karl Vilips is our pick for this year’s huge breakout star. He’s already won on Tour and is one of the young guns who will surely be a future star. You can do way dumber stuff with $5.

Bonus Prop Bets to Consider:

  • Ryan Gerard: Top 10 Finish (+700)
  • Karl Vilips: Top 20 Finish (+450)
