PropKings: NFL Week 17 (2024)

by Samwise

“PropKings” is an article series revealing our staff’s best prop bets across the NFL, College Football, NASCAR and PGA Tour. This write-up features my favorite NFL Week 17 player props.

We are smack-dab in the middle of the NFL Christmas bonanza of games. Already behind us are three contests between Wednesday and Thursday, with another three on Saturday and the rest of the Week 17 slate on Sunday and Monday, per usual. There are already numerous injuries affecting some of these teams locked in or out of the playoffs, which needs to be considered. We’ve seen that anything can happen this week, so for this Sunday edition of “PropKings,” I’m focused on teams in low-pressure situations.

This entry only includes Sunday NFL Week 17 player prop bets. You’re on your own for Saturday, but you might find some suggestions on my Twitter/X account @BuyAndSellYou before the games. Let’s see what Vegas has in store for us to take advantage of.

NFL Week 17 Player Prop Bets of the Week (2024)

Ameer Abdullah (RB, Las Vegas Raiders) | Over 17.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

With the return of Alexander Mattison in Week 16, Ameer Abdullah still carried the ball seven times. However, he is most valuable to the Raiders in the passing game. He caught five passes on the heels of a Week 15 tilt that saw him secure seven balls, going over 45 yards on both occasions.

Abdullah is averaging 6.2 Yards Per Reception (YPR) and is catching the ball at a 2.5-per-game clip. On Sunday, Las Vegas takes on the hapless Saints, who aren’t likely to put up much of a fight, even on their home turf. New Orleans has allowed three or more catches to running backs in all but three games this year, including twice giving up seven receptions and thrice allowing six receptions.

That trend should continue as Abdullah catch-and-runs his way to 20-plus yards.

Malik Nabers (WR, New York Giants) | Over 66.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

The “questionable” tag for Malik Nabers is an encouraging sign after missing two previous practices. The suggestion is that the toe injury is a pain tolerance issue and that they gave him the first two days of the week off. Assuming he is on the field Sunday when the Giants host the Indianapolis Colts, the rookie will be peppered with targets again from quarterback Drew Lock.  Nabers has drawn under 10 targets in just three games this season and has had back-to-back 14-target games the last two times out.  He is also averaging a full seven yards per game over this prop for the season.

The Colts’ pass defense is near the bottom of the league in defending wide receivers, allowing an average of nearly 12 catches for 144 yards per game. Assuming Nabers’ only issue is pain management, he should easily best 70 yards. If the books release the hold on the reception prop, anything under seven would also be a nice addition.

Michael Penix Jr. (QB, Atlanta Falcons) | Over 200.5 Passing Yards (-115)

The Michael Penix Jr. era has arrived in Atlanta. The eighth-overall pick’s debut disappointed last week against the Giants (202 passing yards and an interception), but the Falcons still won handily. Now that he’s had his first regular-season start, Penix Jr. travels to the nation’s capital to play for a national television audience under the “Sunday Night Football” lights.

Statistically, the Washington Commanders aren’t a much different defense than the New York Giants of a week ago. Expecting the 2023 Heisman Trophy runner-up to flirt with a sub-200-yard effort for the second straight game would be foolhardy. This prop aligns perfectly with Washington’s tendencies this year, as they allow just decimals over 200 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks.

That’s par for the course in Vegas when they won’t know much about a player yet. They set the line according to the defense. However, it’s safe to say that the Falcons are eager to let go of the reins on their new toy. It’s time to give Atlanta something to get excited about. Penix Jr. blows this prop away by 50-plus.

Best of luck with all of your bets this weekend. Brick by brick, we build!

Bonus Bet: Adam Thielen (WR, Carolina Panthers) | Anytime TD (+230) – Tampa Bay sells out against play action
