2023 US Open Best Bets (Outrights)

  • Brooks Koepka (+1100)
  • Cam Smith (+2500)
  • Justin Thomas (+5000)
  • Justin Suh (+30000)

Brooks Koepka (+1100)

Here we go again! Another Major, another Brooks Koepka win? I am firmly in the camp that
thinks this will become a statement and not a question. Koepka’s odds have slid a point since my preview article, but I maintain that he is the best value of these top players. 11/1 on Koepka
seems too long to me. He is always live to win, and even more so in Majors. Coming off his second place at the Masters and his victory at the PGA Championship, Koepka may, in fact, take home another piece of hardware come Sunday. It would also be a nice Father’s Day gift come-early for the dad-to-be.

Cam Smith (+2500)

On a course that requires you to do a little bit of everything and do it well, I really like Cam Smith to possibly win the 2023 US Open. He has a well-rounded game that is only held back by some off-the-tee directional challenges from time to time. Though the rough here will be more difficult than normal, the fairways are actually on the wider side, which should mitigate some of the risk with Smith. He has been excellent on approach, rating out fifth in this field over the last 50 measurable rounds. He is longer than average off the tee and has a stout long iron game to match. Smith is also excellent at scrambling and is in the top 10 for putting. He has the weapons; now it’s time to use them all!

Justin Thomas (+5000)

Why? He is still Justin Thomas, that’s why. 50/1 is criminal for one of the best ball strikers in the game. Has he been playing well? Nope, sure hasn’t. That doesn’t dissuade me, especially at this number. Thomas can be absolute fire with his irons, and if the putter returns to any semblance of its prior self, we may be looking at the US Open champion. It also doesn’t hurt that he has one of the best recovery games in this field, coupled with the larger fairways. I think you see Thomas competing for the 2023 US Open trophy on Sunday.

Justin Suh (+30000)

I liked him at +20000 two weeks ago, and I love him at +30000 today. Justin Suh is long and accurate off-the-tee and on-approach. Normally he is hitting fairways at a 61% clip and pounding the ball 300-plus yards, and I think that the fairways in regulation number is even higher here. Not to keep reiterating the fairways, but it does matter, especially on a second-shot course like Los Angeles Country Club (LACC). The other thing to love about Suh is his putter, which rates out third in this field. This is the super deep play that has winning upside this week!

Other 2023 US Open Bets to Consider:

  • Rory McIlroy (+1200)
  • Viktor Hovland (+1800)
  • Hideki Matsuyama (+4000)
  • Rickie Fowler (+4500)
  • Wyndham Clark (+7000)
