RBC Heritage Betting Picks
Will Zalatoris (+2500)
Will Zalatoris is back and even better than he was pre-injury. At this point, we can safely say that. A ninth-place finish at The Masters solidified that in my mind. There is a lot to like with Zalatoris this week. His approach game has been great. He rates out inside the top 10 over the last 24 rounds, and his best range is 175-200 yards, which comprises 30% of the second shots on this course. His par-5 scoring is second in this field behind only Scottie Scheffler.
The stigma he carries is always around his putter, and I’m not sure it’s warranted at this point. He will never be the best putter in the world, but he doesn’t have to be. He’s losing just over .5 of a stroke per round, which he is more than making up for with what he is gaining on approach. I prefer a stronger putter at Harbour Town, but Zalatoris is playing solid golf that can’t be ignored. In addittion, he did manage to keep the putting in line enough to navigate Augusta National, which is a far more difficult venue to putt at.
Russell Henley (+3500)
Russell Henley has been playing some of the most underrated and consistent golf this year. Outside of The Players and The Masters, he has been knocking at the door going all the way back to July of last year. Week in and week out, he’s competing.
His approach game has been great, consistently gaining about 2.3 strokes per tournament. The putter has been true throughout this run, rating eighth in the field and second in the field for 3-putt avoidance. His overall around-the-green game also rates out 15th. If he has to get up and down, he’s doing it. The other thing to like about Henley is he rates eighth in this field in par-4 scoring, which will give him plenty of scoring chances this week. RBC Heritage requires strong accuracy and a consistent short game, and Henley fits the bill.
Harris English (+5500)
I was surprised to see that Harris English finished T22 last week at The Masters. I was more surprised to see the level of golf he had quietly been playing over the previous few months. He’s not winning by any stretch, but he certainly could win.
The main thing that turned me onto English this week is his accuracy over the last 24 rounds. He is 14th in this field in fairways gained and 10th in this field for greens in regulation. His putting has been solid, not great, but solid. The 34-year-old is consistent but can catch a hot hand historically. His strokes gained around the green, in general is eighth in this field. So, he’s definitely got the short game for Harbour Town. Surprisingly his strokes gained par-5 is also inside of the top 20. He could be under the radar this week and has all the tools to pop up late on Sunday.
Tom Hoge (+8000)
Welp, it’s been a while since Tom Hoge ruined my weekend. Hoge and I have a love/hate relationship. I’m ready to be hurt again. He has been on a bit of a hot streak this year. He hasn’t missed a cut in his last nine starts and has two T10s during that stretch.
He is rating out second in strokes gained approach behind only Scheffler. Hoge is also No.2 in the field for opportunities gained, and he is converting them, as he is eighth in birdie-or-better rate. The North Carolina native is in the top 15 for every accuracy metric I measured this week. His Putting has been solid, placing him No.11 overall in the field and No.18 for 3-putt avoidance. I’m looking for accurate ball strikers who make birdies in bunches and can putt. That’s Hoge! Dial him up! The odds of 80/1 are disrespectful this week.
Other Outright Bets on My Card for the RBC Heritage 2024:
- Scottie Scheffler (+400) – As crazy as it is, if he tees it up, he will most likely win… again.
- Ludvig Aberg (+1200)
- Tommy Fleetwood (+1800) – This is one of my favorite bets. He looked like he was close last week.
- Si Woo Kim (+3000)
- Denny McCarthy(+4500)
- Chandler Phillips (+30000)
- Kevin Kisner (+100000) – If anyone gives you 1000-1 odds in the PGA, you take it. No he probably won’t win, but this is a course he could have won at in the past. Who doesn’t have a few bucks to dream with for a few holes?
