FedEx St. Jude Championship 2024 Betting Picks

Collin Morikawa (+1200)

Collin Morikawa is playing higher quality golf statistically than Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele over the last 24 rounds. It’s somewhat hard to believe, given that the University of California, Berkeley alumnus has yet to cross the finish line first. That may all change this week.

He is right on the cusp, and now is not the time to jump off of him. He is rating out No. 2 for me this week behind Scottie Scheffler and is actually edging him out in a few key stats that I looked at for TPC Southwind. The most telling signs of how close he is lie within his approach and driving metrics. He is No. 3 in the field for strokes gained tee-to-green, No. 5 in approach and No. 3 in good drives gained. He also rates out inside the top three for overall accuracy. His game is nails right now, and the putter has come along for the ride, rating out 15th in this field.

TPC Southwind needs an all-around game, not the very specific ranges we look at normally, but well-rounded from all distances. This is the area where Morikawa stands head and shoulders above the top of this board. He is elite with any iron in his hand. Nobody seems too excited about him here, but everyone should be. Go get your Morikawa ticket!

Tony Finau (+4000)

Tony Finau is finding his way back onto my card this week. I’m ready to be feuding with him come Monday. I have to mentally prepare myself whenever Finau sets up too well to ignore. He truly does, though, this week. He is coming in at the No. 6 spot overall for my model.

His approach game has been incredible, rating out No. 2 overall behind – you guessed it – Scheffler. Finau is another player who excels from multiple approach buckets. He’s just good with his irons. His driver has been a little wayward as of late but he still rates out No. 18 for good drives gained in this field. The 34-year-old has not lost strokes tee-to-green in his last seven starts. He also has not lost strokes, putting in his last five starts.

As noted, the FedEx St. Jude Championship requires an elite all-around game. Although Finau and I have a love-hate relationship, I can’t deny how well-rounded of a player he is. This seems like a value for a golfer with the ample winning upside that Finau has every time he tees it up.

Sepp Straka (+6500)

Sepp Straka was not necessarily on my radar at first glance this week, but it turns out he is a great fit for this course. He came in at No. 9 overall for TPC Southwind. Straka has had a great season and a nice string of T10s and T5s earlier in the year.

The Austrian certainly possesses the all-around game we are looking for at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He is No. 1 in this field in driving accuracy and is also long enough to crack the top five in good drives gained. Straka also adds an elite approach game, rating out No. 10 in this field.

The risk with Straka is his putting and around-the-green game. He is near the back of the pack here when combining the two metrics. That said, he can get red hot with the putter and has done it for long stretches this season. He’s a boom-bust option here, and we need the short stick to cooperate. If it does, he has the elite-level play through the rest of his bag to win at TPC Southwind. Straka is one of my favorite upside bets of the week!
