Week 11 Fantasy Football Advice Mailbag

I’m 10-0 in a 12-team league. I was offered Amon-Ra. St. Brown for Alvin Kamara. Should I Accept or Pass? — @Jzamudio24

Context: @Jzamudio24’s RBs are Derrick Henry, Kenneth Walker III, Chuba Hubbard and Alvin Kamara, while his WRs are CeeDee Lamb, Jayden Reed, D.J. Moore and Amari Cooper. He would add Amon-Ra St. Brown to his receiving corps if he traded away Kamara.

First off, congratulations! Being 10-0 is a huge accomplishment in general, but especially this injury-plagued season. Be proud of yourself.

However, like the great Kobe Bryant (I’m a basketball girl at heart) said, “Job’s not finished.”Let’s get into it.

Amon-Ra St. Brown‘s 2024 Season

Amon-Ra St. Brown is picking up where he left off from last season. He is sixth among wide receivers in Points Per Reception (PPR) fantasy points scored (152.7) and has scored a touchdown in seven straight games.

In his past three games, St. Brown has accumulated 15 catches for 123 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Since his gross Week 1 performance against the Los Angeles Rams, the wide receiver has scored over 10 points in all but two games (Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys and Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans).

The Detroit Lions will face the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears (twice), Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings to close the regular season. Detroit will certainly face some tough secondaries in Chicago and Buffalo, but St. Brown remains Jared Goff‘s most consistent target. Sam LaPorta and the running back duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs will have their shares, but St. Brown is a no-brainer to have on your team if you’re lucky to have him.

Alvin Kamara‘s 2024 Season

Alvin Kamara has been fairly consistent this season, finishing with under 10 points in just two games:  Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs and Week 7 vs. Denver Broncos. The two AFC West squads are home to the top rushing defenses in the NFL, so down performances were expected.

Kamara struggled on the ground in the New Orleans Saints’ 20-17 Week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons. He finished with 55 rushing yards on 17 carries, good for 3.2 Yards Per Carry (YPC). However, he made it up in the receiving end, with five catches off six targets for 54 yards.

He is second at the running back position in points with 206.6 PPR points scored (20.7 per game). The Saints will face a 14th-ranked rush defense in the Cleveland Browns, along with the Los Angeles Rams, New York Giants, Washington Commanders, Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to end the regular season. Kamara does have a favorable schedule ahead, but his workload is certainly concerning.

In Week 10, Kamara ran a route on 63% of dropbacks while boasting a 28% target share. He is on pace for 370 touches on the year (he currently leads the league with 218) but has never surpassed 307. His injury history is a concern, and the Saints’ offensive weapons are limited by Chris Olave‘s injury and Derek Carr‘s struggles. This is something I’d pay attention to.

The Verdict

This trade proposal is like having two great job offers on the table – a great problem to have. One can argue that the running back position is slowly emerging because players like Christian McCaffrey are returning to play.

However, I can’t turn down St. Brown. Lamb and Moore are in tricky situations at quarterback with Cooper Rush’s poor 2024 debut and Caleb Williams at drop status in most leagues after another lackluster performance. However, Hubbard earned his new contract for a reason. He is the Panthers’ RB1, even with Jonathon Brooks likely filling in for Miles Sanders to end the season. He’s also coming off a 28-carry, 153-yard, one-touchdown performance in Week 10. Walker III is a semi-boom-bust player but has favorable matchups ahead, such as the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and even the Chicago Bears.

Amon-Ra St. Brown will only get hotter as the playoffs emerge, and Reed is still a solid WR3/flex to rely on with Jordan Love back. Cooper is slowly emerging into the Buffalo Bils’ offense and is something to keep an eye on, pending Keon Coleman or other receivers’ help.

Kamara’s workload long-term worries me, and the running back depth makes up the loss anyway, especially with Lamb and Moore’s situations. Pull the trigger on this trade.
