Farmers Insurance Open 2024 Betting Picks
Collin Morikawa (+1100)
Having some good experience at Torrey Pines will be of benefit this week, and Collin Morikawa has plenty. His last three times here, he finished third, T21 and T4. He is from California, and the former Cal Bear knows these courses and conditions inside and out. In his last three Tour starts, he has a fifth-place finish, seventh-place finish and a win. Though he has still had some struggles with his putting, the rest of his game has been as solid as it comes. He is lethal off the tee and on approach, leading the field in avoiding bogeys. Morikawa’s overall approach game rates out top five in this field, and when it comes to longer irons, he is one of the best on Tour.
It’s hard to find a reason not to bet on him this week, and +1100 seems like a real value versus the other favorites at the Farmers Insurance Open.
Eric Cole (+3500)
Eric Cole will continue to be on my betting card every week. He continues to show up and play consistent golf. He hasn’t missed a cut dating all the way back to May, and he is in the hunt every week. Cole’s issue is off the tee, where he typically loses strokes, but he has had that part of the game more dialed in over the last six starts. His approach game rates out No. 2 over the last 24 rounds and shows no signs of slowing. He did miss the cut here in 2023, but he was a rookie on the PGA Tour and has since claimed Rookie of the Year honors and become one of the hottest players in the world. I expect big things out of Cole this year, and a win at Torrey Pines is definitely not out of the question!
Daniel Berger (+7000)
Do you know who is really good at golf? Daniel Berger. The odds of 70-1 have to be a misprice. After not seeing Berger for almost two years due to a back injury, he seemingly picked right back up where he left off last week. Though he only finished 39th, his play was enough to have me right back in on him. Shooting rounds of 68, 68, 67 and 68, he looked solid. He wasn’t in danger of winning last week, but typically, an all-out birdie-fest is not where I target Berger.
I like him on tough setups, and the Farmers Insurance Open seems like a better fit to see Berger claim his first win back on Tour. His off-the-tee game is very consistent, and the approach game is nails. His best putting surface is Poa Annua, which is the surface we will see at the Torrey Pines South Course. This sets up well to see Berger competing for the win come Sunday!
Ryo Hisatsune (+10000)
Ryo Hisatsune is becoming one of my favorite players to back, and we keep getting great numbers on him. Odds of 100-1 is another potential misprice for the upside we have with him. Hisatsune finished 11th last week at The American Express, shooting a final round -7 under to finish -23 for the tournament. Hisatsune is an accurate bomber with an excellent approach game. We don’t have a lot of PGA stats to go on, but when you look at his DP World Tour finishes over the last 12 months, it is impressive. One win, a third place and eight top 10s is a pretty solid track record. I will be early on Hisatsune because these 100/1 and longer odds will not be around for too many more tournaments. I believe he has a great chance to win at Torrey Pines this week!
