The Genesis Invitational 2024 Betting Picks

Rory McIlroy (+1000)

Rory McIlroy is one of my favorite bets at Riviera Country Club. He has a good course history here and has found himself in contention almost every year he has teed it up. In true McIlroy fashion, he just hasn’t been able to put together four solid rounds, but I think that changes this week.

We all know Rory has the best driver in the game. His approach game has been the problem the last two starts, losing strokes for the first time since last May. Riviera is a course in that he has gained an average of over 3.5 strokes on approach, so this is a bonafide get-right spot with the irons. McIlroy has also gained almost one stroke around the greens here on average.  He has the best driver, elite iron play and an excellent short game at this tournament. Plus, he’s at double-digit odds. Time to fire up McIlroy at The Genesis Invitational 2024!

Max Homa (+1800)

Max Homa has some of the best course history of anyone here, with no worse than a T10 in his last four starts. He won this tournament back in 2021 and finished second in 2023. Much like McIlroy, Homa gains almost 1.5 more strokes on approach at Riviera than he typically does elsewhere. Homa does struggle to find the fairway from time to time, but that hasn’t been the case for him here.

His last two starts have not been great, which leads to the 18/1 we are getting on him this week. If he had played up to the level he had been at prior, we would be looking at a much shorter number, perhaps in the single digits. I have no reason to believe that Homa won’t be in contention this week.

Adam Scott (+2500)

Course history means something at The Genesis Invitational, and Adam Scott is another past champion. He won in 2020 with a score of -11. Scott has been playing some incredible golf, and it feels like it has been under the radar. He is the type of well-rounded player that we are looking for at Riviera.

So far in 2024, he has T20 at The AT&T and an eight-place finish at the WM Phoenix Open. Last week in Scottsdale, his approach game was on fire, gaining 6.5 strokes. Off the tee, he gained 1.8 and complimented that with 1.7 on the greens. These stats aren’t atypical of Scott over the last 24 rounds. He continues to gain week after week. Scott rated out fifth overall in my statistical modeling and in the top 10 for the putting metrics and key proximity ranges. He is setting up near perfect coming into the week.

Chris Kirk (+8000)

Chris Kirk is the exception to my course history-heavy pool this week. He hasn’t played here in the last five years; his last start before that was a missed cut. As a matter of fact, historically, he has missed the cut more often than any other player I’m looking at this week.

However, Kirk has been a completely different golfer over the last 12 months. He has won twice on Tour in that time. His approach game has been elite, and he rates out No. 9 in my model for that category. The 38-year-old is in the top 20 for bogey avoidance and the top 13 for all of the proximity buckets and scorable hole metrics. The approach game alone is reason enough for me to bet him here, but the solid year of performance shows no signs of slowing.

In the year of longshot winners, we already saw him win this year at long odds, so why not again at The Genesis Invitational?
