Sony Open in Hawaii 2024 Betting Picks

Brian Harman (+2000)

Why Brian Harman did not make my card last week is one of life’s great mysteries. I will not make that mistake again here. The Open 2023 champion sets up almost perfectly for Waialae Country Club. Accuracy will be at a premium this week, and he has that dialed in. My knock on Harman last week was his lack of distance. Waialae plays at a much shorter 7,044 yards. His approach game has been on fire his last two starts, and the putter came along for the ride last week, gaining a ridiculous 7.9 strokes.

Another thing to like about him is that he is an excellent wind player, so when the winds pick up, Harman shouldn’t falter as much as some of the field. Harman will be a name that makes it to my card a lot this season, and this week seems like a good time to hit the outright!

Eric Cole (+2800)

2023 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, Eric Cole is very live to win this week. He rated out No.1 in my course-fit model, and it wasn’t even close. He is a prolific par-4 scorer – No. 1 over the last 24 rounds – which is critical this week on a course that has more of them than typical. He is also in the top eight for every approach bucket and seventh overall for shots gained. The 35-year-old makes birdies by the truckload and is tops in avoiding giving strokes back. He is rock solid as is, but he is another golfer who plays excellent in windy conditions and will be able to weather the storm, so to speak, should the winds change.

The challenge for Cole can be off the tee, but at a course that is more focused on accuracy and less on distance, I look for him to maintain control more often than not. Waialae Country Club says Eric Cole to me! He is my favorite bet of the for te Sony Open in Hawaii this week!

JT Poston (+3000)

JT Poston is coming off of a T5 at The Sentry, where he lost an uncharacteristic 3.7 shots on approach. I see him bouncing back in a big way this week at The Sony Open in Hawaii. He has been playing excellent golf over the last 50 rounds. We liked him last week, and he was right there on Sunday. I am going to go back to the well this week for sure. When it comes to having solid looks at birdie, Poston is leading the field. He is sticking it close, which may come in handy as these greens are smaller than the Tour average, and that will be amplified in contrast to the massive greens from Kapalua. It’s not time to jump off the Poston train just yet!

Ryo Hisatsune (+11000)

Ryo Hisatsune has been in my DFS and Betting pools before, and this is a course where I will take advantage of him being a lesser-known talent. The odds of +11000 seem like a misprice for the talent level. He is currently 74th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) standings and had one win, a third place and eight top-10s on the DP World Tour in 2023.

We have limited results on the PGA Tour to look at, but he is an excellent ball striker. Within his last 12 measured rounds, he gained over four strokes from tee-to-green and 2.2 on approach. He is different than most of my card, in that he is a bomber, averaging about 316 yards per driver. I don’t think his distance will matter as much here, but it certainly won’t hurt him having shorter looks than some of the field. He is my favorite long shot this week at +11000!
