Genesis Scottish Open 2024 Betting Picks
Collin Morikawa (+1600)
Collin Morikawa rated out in the top spot for me this week. He has been playing excellent golf and just hasn’t quite brought home a win. The University of California, Berkeley alumnus has eight top-16 finishes in his last eight starts, including a runner-up, a third, two fourths and a ninth. He has been gaining strokes in every major category at an insane clip and hasn’t lost a full stroke in any category going all the way back to The Masters.
His game is being overlooked because he doesn’t have the best track record across the pond. The Renaissance Club will play exceedingly easy this week with the tame weather. Morikawa is an elite iron player who has the creativity and touch around the green to go low. The putter is always a question mark, but he has been trending great on the greens, gaining an average of 2.75 strokes in his last four starts. He is in excellent form and has all the tools to win the Genesis Scottish Open.
Justin Thomas (+3500)
Justin Thomas has not done anything near what I expected him to do this year, but he is a highly competitive player, and he has been grinding to get his game right, and it’s starting to show. He is coming off a fifth-place finish at The Travelers Championship, where he gained seven strokes tee-to-green and showed his creativity getting up and down, gaining 2.2 strokes around-the-green and a complimentary 1.5 strokes putting.
Over the last 24 rounds, he is 12th in overall tee-to-green and 3rd in strokes gained around the green, so those stats from The Travelers are not a flash in the pan. His off-the-tee game has been holding him back a bit, but he did manage to gain 1.1 strokes in his last start. “JT” is going overlooked, given the form he’s in. I, for one, am not going to be late on him. If he keeps the game rolling, he will be completely live to win at the Genesis Scottish Open.
Davis Thompson (+5500)
Davis Thompson is coming off of an impressive win last week at the John Deere Classic and is as typical in PGA Tour betting: no one wants to bet on the golfer who just won. I, for one, will bet him at this number. Thompson had all the signs pointing toward winning, and if anything, I believe that form keeps trending this week.
He rates out fourth in strokes gained tee to green over the last 24 rounds and is second in strokes gained around the green. He averages 306 yards off the tee, which is plenty of length to take advantage of The Renaissance Club.
Don’t be afraid to go back to the well on Thompson. He has three T10s in his last three starts and has not even been close to losing strokes in any metrics I used to rank this week. He can go low and rates out No.1 for birdie-or-better rate this week. This course will play easy and require these golfers to go low. Thompson can do it with the best of them!
Sebastian Soderberg (+9000)
There are a few DP World Tour players I like this week, and near the top of that list is Sebastian Soderberg. In his last five starts, he has a third and three runner-up finishes. He is in excellent form.
Soderberg has an impressive around-the-green game and is in the top seven for overall putting stats this season. He is very accurate on approach, hitting greens at a 69% rate. His driving stats leave a little to be desired, as he’s not the longest or the most accurate. Still, that hasn’t held him back this year, as he is third for scoring average this season. It’s tough to know exactly how he stacks up against some of the big-name Americans, but it’s tough finding a European player in better form coming into this week.
